INTRODUCTION: When I was enlisted, my PLT SRGNT put me in charge of a PV2, who was fresh out of high school, didn’t have a drivers license, and was pushed out of the home (because he wasn’t going to be laying around daddy’s house doing nothing). He wasn’t a popular Soldier, and english was his second language. He failed his first PT test, was flagged and threatened to be chaptered out if he failed the next one. He passed his push ups, maxed out his sit-ups but he turned as red as a pig right before the two mile-run. As you guessed, it was not his strong point. At that moment, I became his pacer. We took of running at an obviously slower pace than everyone else. Four minutes into the run and he was gassed. At about half of a mile left, he almost gave up and I yelled “don’t quit” as loud as I could. I even started calling a cadence for him. He passed the finished finished line in time and you can see the joy in his face. He never had anyone to speak life into him before. He never heard someone encourage him, to tell him he could be or accomplish.

We find that Moses was in the same boat. He didn’t know what he had in him. Today, we are going to learn that When God calls his choses a person for a task, He doesn’t need their ability. God just needs wants our yes!

GOD CAN HEAL OUR INSECURITIES BY HIS ABILITY

Moses three objections to God that identified that he was insecure:
BUT with each objection, comes encouragement from God!

Objection #1: “Who am I?”

Exodus 3:10–11 NLT
10 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”
Exodus 6:5–7 NLT
5 You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And I am well aware of my covenant with them. 6 “Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt.
There was janitor at a public high school who understood God’s purpose for his Job. He would walk the hallways and lay hands on the students lockers, praying for God to protect them and prosper them. One day he was prompted to leave a note on one of lockers. When the students arrived to school the next day, the owner of that locker read the note. The janitor wrote “You matter to God and you matter to me.” What the janitor did not know is that he saved that student from swallowing a bottle full of pills. The student prayed the night before, “God if you don’t want me to take my life, someone will tell me that my life actually matters. Otherwise, I AM DONE.” Our jobs are not just a job, we are called by God to be leaders and to make a difference for the glory of God.
We become insecure when our hearts are set on ourselves and on the patterns of this world. Our value is not in what the world tells us our value is, it is in the grace of God, choosing to adopt us into his family. Every talent, career, and job position we have belongs to God and is God’s investment into us. We are to use our talents and positions as God’s leaders because they are vehicles to set God’s people free.

YOU ARE GOD’s ANOINTED!

Objection #2: “What if they?”

Exodus 4:1 NLT
1 But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you’?”
People will not always receive you no matter what you do. I remember going to the wake of one of my parishioners, who was an older lady. The son of a friend of hers looked me in the eyes and insulted me, “Who are you?” “I am Ms. Dean’s pastor,” I said. He replied, “I reckoned you were one of my friends from jail.” Then he started laughing. Y’all, I almost fought in front of that dead body, and I do not feel ashamed about it. If you are waiting for man’s approval to go when God said go, then you will never go.

IT’s NOT ABOUT ME!

Objection #3: “Please, Send anyone else!”

Exodus 4:10–13 NLT
10 But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” 11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” 13 But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
Exodus 6:8 NLT
8 I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your very own possession. I am the Lord!’ ”
I spent years wondering why God led me to Pastor a church in Great Falls, SC. Why would God have a 26 year old black man to pastor an all white church in the deep south (SHOW PICTURE). I could spend a lifetime contemplating our differences and pointing out what didn’t go right, or I can begin thanking God for the work that he did through me. I should be thanking him for the opportunity to lead and preach the gospel.
We can be like Moses, so quick to tell God what we are not that we become oblivious to the LORDs work right before out very eyes.

PLEASE WORK THROUGH ME!

The same man who could barely put a sentence together wrote this song, praising God for what he has done:

Exodus 15:9–13 NLT
9 “The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’ 10 But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11 “Who is like you among the gods, O Lord— glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders? 12 You raised your right hand, and the earth swallowed our enemies. 13 “With your unfailing love you lead the people you have redeemed. In your might, you guide them to your sacred home.
GOD wants to heal your insecurity and give you confidence in His ability.
