Lessons from a Life - The Shunammite Woman
Elisha
Elisha (e-li’-shah) = God the Savior; to whom God is salvation; God of salvation; God is Savior.
Shunem
Shunem (shu’-nem) = Two resting places. Their sleep.
8 One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat.
Lesson One - Relational Pursuit
9 She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God.
10 Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.”
“Most people live in a small prison of the four C’s; Clocks, Calendars, Checks, and Circumstances”. ~ Pastor Mike Mille’
It’s time to wait on the Lord. By “wait”, think waiting on a table, not waiting on a bus.
It’s time to stop listening to yourself, and start talking to yourself.
17 That’s what the Scripture means when it says: “I have made you the father of many nations.” He is our example and father, for in God’s presence he believed that God can raise the dead and call into being things that don’t even exist yet.
God give 99.9% of what He gives us in seed form; opportunities, not immediate outcome.
11 Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.
12 Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.
11 But we long to see you passionately advance until the end and you find your hope fulfilled.
12 So don’t allow your hearts to grow dull or lose your enthusiasm, but follow the example of those who fully received what God has promised because of their strong faith and patient endurance.
It’s time to make a place for God in your life. Real, tangible, practical, investment in the Kingdom of God.
33 “So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
11 One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest.
12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Tell the woman from Shunem I want to speak to her.” When she appeared,
13 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ” “No,” she replied, “my family takes good care of me.”
14 Later Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can we do for her?” Gehazi replied, “She doesn’t have a son, and her husband is an old man.”
6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.
15 “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her as she stood in the doorway,
“She stood in the doorway”
A doorway that she created to receive an opportunity that God created.
8 “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.
16 “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.”
17 But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.
