When You Are Sick Of Being Stuck
When You Are Sick Of Being Stuck
Have you even made a New Year’s Resolution?
I want to lose weight
Spend more time in the Bible
only listen to worship music
be better with my money
Maybe not a New Year’s Resolution but just wanted to make a change
Just to fail
Weight Loss Journey and all the failures
Wasn’t until the doc. said I would be around for my kids that made me change
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
We Are a New Creation, just sometimes I think we forget
But if you are stuck and you are sick of failing this is for you.
Even if you are not stuck this is for you, because you might be there in the future.
I said a couple of times from up here but I was for a while a boxing coach here is the proof
PICTURE
As a coach I was taught that there are 5 stages of change they are
Pre-contemplation
There is no drive to change
Contemplation
You see the need to change, but not there yet
preparation
This is where you start getting together a plan
talking to people about what to do
ordering things to help
Action
This is where you work at the change
and maintenance
You have made the change now you work at keeping it
This 5 stages of change does not just apply to fitness but to our everyday life as well.
Pre-contemplation
You might think everything is fine
you just don’t care to change
you are stuck in a habit
you might have issues with depression but not really understanding why or just making peace with its just apart of your life
Contemplation
we see the need to change
we know that God has called us for so much better
we are sick of living the way that we are living
we might feel distant from God
Depression might be Present and we feel hopeless that the change might never happen, but we understand why we are depressed.
Preparation
Self-reflection
We have to see what needs to be changed in our lives honestly
Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the Lord.
Seeking Knowledge
learning about how to change
Seeking out those who has go through it
finding a mentor that can help keep you on the right track
Action
Its time to get to work, this is where we go through with the change
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Why Are We Stuck?
Why Are We Stuck?
Why don’t we make the changes that last?
We Stay Stuck because we rely on willpower instead of God’s power
You know the feeling
You make progress and you feel like you got it
and then you regress or maybe end up in the same place or farther back.
This is because willpower does not work
it is limited
Paul knew he needed more power and thats why he asked
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
Paul though answers His own question in the very next verse
Romans 7:25a (NIV)
Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! .
How Do We Change?
How Do We Change?
I used to tell clients you have to set clear goals
Vocalize it,
Set Clear Goals
Set Clear Goals
I want to change ________
What does that Goal look like
how will it change you
Can you achieve it?
Share it with those you trust
Take Action
Take Action
There once was a wise little green man that once said “Do or Do not, there is no try” there is no short cut, there is no other way but to just do it, take action do not wait just do it.
Like it said in James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
DO WHAT IT SAYS
Seek Support
Seek Support
Find someone to walk this path with you
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
We Need to have someone with us to help up us in these times when it gets hard.
Rely on God’s Power, And Our Will Power
Rely on God’s Power, And Our Will Power
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
We cannot Change apart from God
