What makes you a Christian?
17 Now I urge you, brothers, to keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and stumblings contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. 18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own stomach, and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. 19 For the report of your obedience has reached to all. Therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. 20 And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Guard the doctrine
3 As I exhorted you when going to Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may command certain ones not to teach a different doctrine,
3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words—those of our Lord Jesus Christ—and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,
15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
How can we know a wolf from a sheep?
Sola Scriptura
Be faithful:
To the teaching from your pastor
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
To the teaching of Scripture - Personal association with your Bible
To the teaching of tradition - Evangelical Orthodoxy - Know the history of your faith
Obedience
19 For the report of your obedience has reached to all. Therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.
To have a track record means you have to be on the track enough to be known. s a record of past performance often taken as an indicator of likely future performance.
So many are afraid of correction and confrontation.
This is not possible for any couple. Any family. Any church family.
Challenges will come. And they should.
Satan crushed under your feet - by God’s grace
20 And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
When the church performs correctly as a body, Satan is crushed.
The church is a body of believers gathered together obediently performing her duties as faithful servants of the King - Jesus.
He is the potter, we are the clay
Change my heart of God, make it ever true. Change my heart o God, may I be like you.
You are the potter, I am the clay, mold me and make me, this is what I pray. Change my heart o God.
20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of clay, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, having been prepared for every good work.
I want you to be:

Teachable - Not easily offended. Ready and willing to conform to the truth of the Bible. Willing to let down your pride.
Disciples rebuked for lack of faith.
James and John rebuked for wanting to call fire down on people.
Peter when he was rebuked by Christ
Ultimately - Jesus when he commanded that his body must be eaten and his blood drank. Everyone left.
66 As a result of this many of His disciples went away and were not walking with Him anymore. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go?”
Be soft in the hands of the Lord to shape you and make you as He sees fit.
