4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:6–7 NKJV
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

The forgotten God. The Third Person of the Trinity.
We need the Holy Spirit.
Reasons we come to church - to worship the Lord, to hear the word
Your experience is more than just an emotional high, we need more than that

Truths for Today:
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is for every believer
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is needed by every Christian.
The baptism with the Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses for Christ.
1. The Baptism with the Holy Spirit is for every believer
a. The believer is indwelt by the Spirit
Romans 8:9 NKJV
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Ephesians 1:13–14 NKJV
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
b. The Holy Spirit was promised by the Father
Acts 1:4 NKJV
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;
c. The Holy Spirit was promised by the Lord Jesus
Acts 1:5 NKJV
5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Jesus promised a Helper.
John 14:16–18 NKJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Paraclete - the one who comes alongside you. I like the King James translation of “Comforter”. He is our Comforter, Counselor, advocate.
2. The Baptism with the Holy Spirit is needed by the Christian.
It is a priority.
It is needed to live the life of the Christian, in the period between conversion and the second coming of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 1:7 NKJV
7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
8a “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you”
Is there a second experience
The Bible talks about a baptism in the Spirit and a baptism with the Spirit.
There is a baptism in the Spirit by which we are baptized into the Lord Jesus Christ and into His body the church - at conversion.
1 Corinthians 12:12–13 NKJV
12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
There also is this passage from Ephesians which speaks of the unifying work of the Holy Spirit and the baptism into the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:4–6 NKJV
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
You are part of the global church of Christ!
Reason why there is a baptism with the Holy Spirit.
Luke 24:52–53 NKJV
52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
This are not unconverted unregenerate folks
God offers more!
He did not just save us to get us to heaven — (talk)
God wants you to be empowered so that you can have power to live your lives! (talk)
we need fresh baptisms, infillings with the Holy Spirit. repeated experience..
3. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses for Christ.
Acts 1:8 NKJV
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We are an evangelistic church
There is a need to be discipled and to be trained but it is the Holy Spirit that gives us the power to be effective witnesses.
Luke 24:49 ESV
49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Being clothed with power on high.
“Luke says that being baptized in the Spirit is being clothed with power from on high so that the message of Christ can be taken effectively to all the world.” (John Piper)
Evangelization of the world
Last note: There is a need to demystify the Holy Spirit and the baptism with the Holy Spirit - not a weird experience..
Remember the Holy Spirit is a Person not a substance
I believe in the promised visitation of God through an outpouring of His Spirit.
Joel 2:28–29 NKJV
28 “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
Joel 2:30–31 NKJV
30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
Joel 2:32 NKJV
32 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.
Be filled with the Holy Spirit!
