Joseph story signals a small reversal of the Eden narrative in Genesis 3.
Dru Johnson
It is hardly accidental that four-fifths of Genesis (chs. 12–50) describes the history of only four generations (Abraham to Joseph), while one-fifth of Genesis (chs. 1–11) describes the history of twenty generations (Adam to Abraham).
Victor P. Hamilton
Isaac and Rebekah were both buried here (Genesis 49:31). Jacob buried Leah here (Genesis 49:31), and Joseph buried Jacob here (Genesis 50:13). The cave of Machpelah (near Hebron) was the great tomb of the Patriarchs.
David Guzik
Even when God was blessing Joseph with great success and power, it was not about Joseph’s health, wealth, and prosperity. God blessed Joseph so that Joseph could be a constant blessing to others!
Kurt Strassner
What an opportunity for enslavement to victimhood. But there is not a “poor me” hint anywhere in the entire Genesis account of Joseph!
R. Kent Hughes
There are two sins which were Christ’s sorest enemies, covetousness and envy. Covetousness sold Christ and envy delivered him.
Thomas Manton
Envy! Envy is the reverse side of a coin called vanity. Nobody is ever envious of others who is not first proud of himself.
John Stott
