Remember My House - Haggai 1:1-4

INTRO: HOME TOWN-Erin and Ben love their small Mississippi hometown, especially the old historical houses. They keep the character of these classic homes but give them modern and affordable updates. They work together to create a future beauty remembering the bright past.

Scripturally - A house is a where a family ABIDES.

John 15:4 “Abide in me, and I will abide in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you abide in me.”

GOD’S HOUSE IS WHERE HIS PEOPLE ABIDE - sharing the unique bond of love and oneness.

GOD’S HOUSE IS WHERE CARE IS MANIFESTED (1)

God demands His Leaders demonstrate spiritual care to His people.

Haggai 1:1 “On August 29 of the second year of King Darius’s reign, the Lord gave a message through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.”

Acts 20:28 “So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.”

God demands WE demonstrate care for one another.

Romans 12.13 “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”

Gal 6.2 “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

God’s House is where CARE is manifested for His people. We Have a RESPONSIBILITY of Care -

We have a RESPONSIBILITY to Remember His House.

GOD’S HOUSE IS WHERE CONTROL IS MANIFESTED – 2

Haggai 1:2 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.’ ”

The Pandemic effected our priorities – emotional distress, difficulties meeting financial obligations or essential needs, loss of job/income, loneliness/isolation...

And We’re talking about it - self-preservation.

The economy effects our focus – Interest rates rise; Gas, Oil, Food Prices up...

…and we’re talking about it.

We Ramble on and on what we have heard on the news. “I heard...” “Somebody said...” What Man SAYS!

But God IS IN CONTROL…OVER ALL THINGS.

Ps 135:6 “The Lord does whatever pleases Him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.”

Is 45:7 “I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the Lord, am the one who does these things.”

Mt 6:31-32 “31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.”

Ps 37:25 “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor His children begging for bread.”

God’s House is a REMINDER that He is ini CONTROL. We Have a RESPONSIBILITY to represent God- SO, it is important to Remember His House.

GOD’S HOUSE IS WHERE HIS CELEBRITY IS MANIFESTED- 3-4

Peoplesville Population 1 - God’s name is on His house. HE is the CELEBRITY - The PSALMS: famous, well known, admired, adored.

Haggai 1:3-4 “3 Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?” 3-4

CONTRAST of HOUSES - Luxury vs Ruins

It’s true- God doesn’t inhabit a building.

Yet the house that has His name on it should represent Him in His glory.

God’s House is where we celebrate Him in praise.

His House is worthy of our investment.
