Water Into Wine

John 2:1–12 NKJV
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
After the temptation of Jesus, He now begins his work. first thing He does is call disciples to follow Him.
The first recorded miracle Jesus did was turning water into wine.
The setting was a wedding, a place of celebration and love.
John 2:1 NKJV
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
John 2:2 NKJV
Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
It was a wedding and Jesus’s mother was there, His disciples were also with Him.
Jesus attended a wedding, I participated in this celebration with the people of Cana.
Jesus was on the most important mission in the history of mankind. Yet He took the time to attend this wedding
Sometimes we get so involved and serious about life that we forget to enjoy one another and the time we have together.
Remember Jesus values times of pleasures as well as times of work.

Celebrate Life

Philippians 4:4–7 NLT
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
In Every Season - Rejoice
In Everything - Rejoice
And the Peace of God will Guard you!

No More Wine

Wine was a very important part of the celebration. And running out of Wine would be an embarrassment to the host
Wine is very much present in the bible, it was present in the tabernacle offerings and the celebration of the passover meal. Wine represents joy/exuberance and feasting
John 2:3 NKJV
And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
This celebration was about to hit the rocks… and it would no longer be a joyous moment.
Mary recognizes the need and brings it to Jesus.
What is it in our lives that has gone? what has run out?
Have we run out of Exuberance or Joy?
John 2:4 NLT
“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”
Jesus tells his mother His time hasn’t come. and that that the wine problem wasn’t His to resolve.
Mary isn’t going to take a no for an answer. and proceeds to tell the servants to do whatever Jesus asks them to do.
John 2:5 NLT
But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Follow Jesus’s Instructions

There can’t be a more important thing in in life that to follow Jesus. Follow what He says… and it will be well with you.
Mary understood this.
There were no conditions about what Jesus was going to ask them to do.
Are you ready to do what He says? Ask yourself?
Is there a cherished sin? Confess and forsake it.
Is there a broken relationship? Seek to heal it
Where have you run out of wine? Ask Jesus to restore you and do what He says.
John 2:6 NKJV
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.
John Jesus Turns Water into Wine / 2:1–11 / 22

The six stone water jars were normally used for the ceremonial washing of hands as part of the Jewish purification rites before and after meals (see Matthew 15:1–2). According to the Jews’ ceremonial law, people became symbolically unclean by touching objects of everyday life. Before eating, the Jews would pour water over their hands to cleanse themselves of any bad influences associated with what they had touched. When full, each jar would hold twenty to thirty gallons.

Jesus uses these empty vessels for the miracle.

MORE THAN WE NEED

Jesus did not come to earth solely to satisfy our desires or to make us happy, as this first miracle might lead some to conclude. Jesus did perform a miracle, but it was in his time and in his way. Jesus provided as much as 180 gallons of choice wine. The lavish supply of wine was a picture of the salvation he came to offer, and a revelation of who he was. What God gives is given in abundance. In Christ we are promised life, the abundance of that life is indicated by the fact that it is eternal!

John 2:7 NKJV
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
Water is a symbol for Life. Jesus is living water. Water here was used to preserve life by cleaning. Water was necessary for the wine!
John came preaching repentance and baptism for the cleansing of our sins. Now these pots that held water for purification will hold water that will turn into wine!
God includes us in the working process of the miracles.
The servants were asked to fill the vessels with water.
John 2:8 NKJV
And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.
John 2:9 NKJV
When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
John 2:10 NKJV
And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
John Jesus Turns Water into Wine / 2:1–11 / 22

YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST NOW

People look everywhere but to God for excitement and meaning. For some reason, they expect God to be dull and lifeless. Just as the wine Jesus made was the best, so life in him is better than life on our own. Why wait until everything else runs out before trying God? Don’t save the best until last.

John 2:11 NKJV
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
John Jesus Turns Water into Wine / 2:1–11 / 22

The Gospels record thirty-five miracles, or signs performed by Jesus. In the Gospel of John, each miracle was a sign intended to point people to the truth that Jesus is the divine Son of God come down from heaven. These signs were remarkable actions that displayed the presence and power of God. According to John’s Gospel, this was Jesus’ first sign—and it was performed in Cana of Galilee

John 2:12 NKJV
After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
Jesus is here today to meet our needs and to fill us with Joy!
