Is there greener grass on the other side?
You may want to consider what’s under the ground that causes it to be greener.
You may want to consider the cost to arrive there.
Here are the BARRIERS to arriving on the other side:
I. The Plan Before Us. V.22
I. The Plan Before Us. V.22
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
“he said unto them” - the plan is always to come from the Bible.
A church is to come from the Scriptures.
A preacher is to come from the Scriptures.
A marriage is to come from the Scriptures.
A missions program is to come from the Scriptures.
If they are not right, then get them right: GET IN THE BOAT!
“forth” - modern versions replace “forth” with “out”
We do not just go out, we are sent forth by a Royal Decree.
Example:
Mark 3:14 “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,”
“forth” is a military command to conquer.
II. The Problem Before Us. V.23
II. The Problem Before Us. V.23
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
“there came down” - What direction was this coming from?
We don’t realize that life’s problems exist because of this.
God sends the test:
God will send the test to prove us.
God will send the test for us to prove Him.
“a storm of wind” - changed!
NIV - changed to “squall”. Easier to understand?
III. The Person Before Us. V.24
III. The Person Before Us. V.24
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
“they came to him” - Why did they come to Jesus now?
Because the plan wasn’t working. “we perish”
Because they didn’t believe the plan. “we”
Had the plan changed?
Has the Gospel changed?
Has the worship changed?
Has the commission changed?
Has the Lord changed? (Hebrews 13:8)
“Then he arose” - these words make Heaven, earth, and Hell take notice.
When He arose in a manger time stopped. (Heaven)
“there was a calm”
When He arose here a storm stopped. (Earth)
“there was a calm”
When He arose from the tomb punishment stopped. (Hell)
“there was a calm”
IV. The Purpose Before Us. V.25
IV. The Purpose Before Us. V.25
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
“he said unto them” - Remember why they got in the boat?
“he said unto them” (v.22)
The marching orders had not changed.
The boat, though full of water, was not going to sink.
Fear and faith do not live together.
“Where is your faith?”
“And they being afraid wondered”
Build your faith not your fear!
“manner” - is changed.
Definition: sort, kind
The change:
NKJV “Who can this be?”
NIV”Who is this?”
NAS, CSB, ESV “Who then is this?”
All the changes question His identification.
Manner shows awe at His magnificence.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
How do you respond to the barriers to arriving?
Are you receiving the same tests?
