Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Read: Job 22:1–4 where we get our title.
Read: Job 22:5–11 did Job do these things? Did he just take from People? (Job answers somewhat in 24, remind me, like 24:3, 9)
Eliphaz accuses Job of vile behavior
being around you is a trap
You aren't a benefit to God because you are righteous, he isn't listening to your argument.
Read: Job 22:12–20 Job claiming blameless (righteous = right acting) are you saying (since being punished) that God missed it? He made a mistake here?
How do the righteous truly laugh at fear?
The righteous also shall see and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying, “Here is the man who did not make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.” But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. I will praise You forever, Because You have done it; And in the presence of Your saints I will wait on Your name, for it is good.
Read: Job 22:21–26 almost a virtue signal? If you return, truly repent all will be ok. Sounds almost like like the psalm but again, connecting success, riches, material
Read Job 22:27–30 Now Eliphaz does believe that God hears the prayers of repentance.
The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
I love the Lord, because He has heard My voice and my supplications.
so even from this ancient source, we see that folks knew that God listened to them, but still like us even with the bible, were confused about some things.
Chapter 23
Chapter 23
read: Job 23:1–7 v2 should read his hand heavy on me in my groaning - Job still has the idea that God has made a mistake
Job 23:8–12 treasured what words? We know how blessed it is when we are called out by the Word.
You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
The Word he speaks of treasuring is emer, which is spoken. He claims that God has spoken to Him. And he says in same manner, if I could just get him to hear me, I know I’m gonna shine like gold.
Job 23:13–17 I wont change him, but I can reason. He knows me above all things.
i wanna keep going but we can pickup in chapter 24 next time.

Was Job wrong when he said submissively, “What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” (Job 2:10). Paul clearly says that God gave him a “thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me,” and he explains why: “lest I should be exalted above measure.” Paul also rejoices in the blessed result: “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:7,9).
Surely, if anyone was in God’s perfect will it was Christ himself. Yet He endured many trials and was a “man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3). Indeed, He learned obedience by the things which he suffered (Hebrews 5:8). And Christ declared that Christians would likewise suffer for His sake: “The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you” (John 15:20).
There was no greater apostle than Paul, yet he suffered “in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep...in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen...in weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst...in cold and nakedness...” (2 Corinthians 11:22-33).
Peter speaks of “the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold...[which] might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ...” (1 Peter 1:7)
