GENEROSITY

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”*
SONG SET

“FOLLOW ME”!

Simply Following Jesus isn't so simple sometimes.
Here are 4 points to guide us In that journey!
Don’t allow who you use to be, to define who you are as a Follower of Jesus
Don’t allow a critical spirit to mess up the move of the Holy Spirit. (bitterness, gossip... can distract)
Don’t allow your comfort to determine God’s Calling
Don’t allow worry of things you can’t control rob your joy in this moment.
When we are focused on what Father wants then the Journey is simply about the “Good Life!”
STILL...
Jesus called his disciples and he is calling disciples today.
Following Jesus is more than discovering Jesus such as finding Salvation, but it is about taking the next step everyday.
Today we are going to see how Jesus calls us to...
Come and See, Go and Tell
“Come and See”
Question:
How much can we fudge on the Truth of God’s Word?
What we hear affects what we know.
What we know influences what we believe.
What we believe impacts what we do.
“What must I do to have eternal Life.”
What keeps a guy from following Jesus?
This is why it is so important to listen to God’s truth.
Jesus genuinely loves people.
WE NEED TO ASK: “What will it COST ME?”
TWO WORDS TO PONDER: Identity & Obedience
Romans 10:17 NLT
17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
Throughout the gospels, Jesus kept inviting His followers
to “come and see,”
to “go and tell,” and
to “listen and understand”
Romans 10:13–15 NLT
13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
WHAT IS THE GOOD NEWS?
Well, we all have messed up and our sin separated us from God.
A God who is good and holy and there’s nothing we can do to bridge that gap.
Well, the Good News is that God loves us so much that He has already made a way for us. An Escape!
David said it this way...
Psalm 91:3 NIV
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
Psalm 124:7 NIV
7 We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
Snare of the Fowler
A fowler is a bird catcher and a snare is a type of slip knot.
SONG: (key: C)
Our Soul Escaped Like A Bird Our soul has escaped like a bird Out of the snare of the fowler
Our soul has escaped like a bird Out of the snare of the fowler
The snare is broken and we are escaped Our help is in the name of the Lord
The snare is broken and we are escaped Our help is in the name of the Lord
Psalm 124:7 M:BCL
7 We’ve flown free from their fangs, free of their traps, free as a bird. Their grip is broken; we’re free as a bird in flight.
APPLICATION:
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers is another metaphor. We have been like birds taken in the “snare,” or net, of a fowler. But now we are escaped — not, however, of our own strength or of our own cleverness. The snare is broken for us by God’s providence, and so we are escaped. [Ref: The Pulpit Commentaries]
SO...
God put on our skin, paid the ultimate price by dying a criminal’s death—even though he was innocent and has conquered the grave by rising again.
He granted us the right to become His!
Call on the Name of the Lord and be saved!
COME AND SEE?
FEVER:
Matthew 8:14–15 NLT
14 When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. 15 But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.
DEMON POSSESSED & EVIL SPIRITS & SICK FOLK:
Matthew 8:16–17 NLT
16 That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. 17 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”
DEMON POSSESSED (BLIND AND MUTE)
Matthew 12:22 NLT
22 Then a demon-possessed man, who was blind and couldn’t speak, was brought to Jesus. He healed the man so that he could both speak and see.
THIS IS THE GOOD NEWS...
Luke 4:18–20 NLT
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” 20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently.
Not just Come and See… but also “Go and Tell”
We may have the best to what is to offer, but if we don’t “Go and Tell” no one will KNOW.
I think of this more than duty— it is obedience in following Jesus!
Example of obedience:
Jonah “Going and Telling” — He is sent by God to prophesy the destruction of Nineveh in 40 days.
He tries to escape this divine mission.
The king of Nineveh then puts on sackcloth and sits in ashes, making a proclamation which decrees fasting, the wearing of sackcloth, prayer, and repentance.
God sees their repentant hearts and spares the city at that time.
The entire city, 100,000 people, humbled and broken
Even the animals were spared...
Jonah 3:8 NLT
8 People and animals alike must wear garments of mourning, and everyone must pray earnestly to God. They must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence.
SENDING OUT OF THE 12: GO AND BE MY WITNESS:
THE SPIRIT WILL GIVE YOU THE WORDS TO SPEAK
Matthew 10:18–20 NLT
18 You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me. 19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. 20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
SENDING OUT OF THE 72: GO AND SAY:
HEAL THE SICK AND TELL THEM
Luke 10:9 NLT
9 Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.’
SENDING OUT OF THE 11: GO INTO ALL THE WORLD:
PREACH AND MAKE DISCIPLES AND SIGNS WILL FOLLOW
Mark 16:15–18 NLT
15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. 16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. 17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
Come and See, Go and Tell
Jesus has called everyone— not just the apostle and evangelist.
We all have been CALLED!
REMEMBER: Jesus genuinely loved people.
And Jesus genuinely Loves YOU!
He wants to
redeem you
restore you
heal you
provide for you
care for you through every situation!
YOU ARE LOVED!!
