ATTRIBUTES OF A GODLY FATHER
EPHESIANS 5:1-4

A FATHER’S LOVE

Captivating Love - 1 John 3:1
Constant Love - Romans 8:28-30
Caring Love - 1 Peter 5:7
Constraining Love - 2 Corinthians 5:14
2 Corinthians 5:14 (KJV 1900)
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
Correcting Love
Hebrews 12:6–10 (KJV 1900)
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

A FATHER’S LISTENING

Always Clear
Psalm 34:15 (KJV 1900)
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous,
And his ears are open unto their cry.
Always Close
Psalm 116:1–2 (KJV 1900)
1 I love the LORD, because he hath heard
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me,
Therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
Incline = to stretch out, to draw closer.
Not only do we need to listen to our children when they need us, but we need to always be close to them. Not just to hear, but to have fellowship.
Always Concentrated
Isaiah 59:1 (KJV 1900) Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Don’t just listen, but hear your children. Take into account what they have to say!

A FATHER’S LIVING

Godly
Psalm 12:1 (KJV 1900) Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; For the faithful fail from among the children of men.
Ephesians 6:4 (of the Lord)
Nurture - discipline
To nurture means to nourish. The world has loved their kids so much, they forgot about correcting.
Proverbs 13:24 (KJV 1900) He that spareth his rod hateth his son: But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Proverbs 19:18 (KJV 1900) Chasten thy son while there is hope, And let not thy soul spare for his crying.
Proverbs 22:15 (KJV 1900) Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Proverbs 23:13–14 (KJV 1900) Withhold not correction from the child: For if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Proverbs 29:15 (KJV 1900) The rod and reproof give wisdom:But a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Proverbs 29:17 (KJV 1900) Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; Yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
You are to be godly. Don’t provoke your children to wrath by being unreasonable in demands, outrageous in punishments, or inconsistent in examples, rules, and controls.
Govern - Ephesians 6:1
Other than God, parents are to be the authority of the child. NOT SCHOOL, GOVERNMENT, OR EMPLOYER.
Children who learn to defy parental authority will go on to defy other authority and will often grow up to defy divine authority.
Eli’s children had no proper authority in their lives and they became wicked as hell.
Gracious
Love on your children like God love’s us!
