Introduction
Good Morning turn in your bibles to the eight chapter of the Gospel of John. Today we continue our series on the I am statements of Jesus found in the Gospel of John. Last week we looked at Jesus’s claim to be the bread of life. Today we will look at Jesus and His statement. I am the light of the World.
The major theme of the Gospel of John is found toward the end of this gospel in John 20:31 “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John’s whole purpose in writing this gospel is so that anyone who reads it might believe that Jesus is the son of God. That is that He is God in the flesh.
And today lends to that larger theme that John or rather God is communicating through John consistently throughout this entire gospel. I am the light of the World. Jesus made that claim and it recorded for us in John 8:12 “Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.””
