Specify the Apologetic Topic.
What is the Bible and why is it so important? This is the question that we will address in this sermon.
Words matter and who speaks them matters more.
If we understand what the Bible is and the implications that are made by its own claims, then we will uphold the Word of God to the place of importance that it deserves in our lives.

The story has been told of a South Sea Islander who proudly displayed his Bible to a G.I. during World War II. “We’ve outgrown that sort of thing,” the soldier said. The native smiled back, “It’s a good thing we haven’t. If it weren’t for this book, you’d have been a meal by now!”

The result is complete transformation of our minds, and lives that are full of faith and assurance.

According to C. H. Spurgeon, “A Bible which is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t!” The key to victory is “It is written.”

2 Timothy 3:16–17 CSB
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Tell the Topic’s Significance.
1. How important is the Word of God compared to other writings?
The third essential is that Scripture, the sixty-six books of the Holy Bible, is God’s inspired and perfect revelation (2 Tim 3:16)
Edward E. Hindson
Because the Holy Spirit breathed His life into a book by the process of inspiration (2 Tim 3:16), then the Holy Spirit that indwelt individual believers (1 Cor 6:19–20), and the Holy Spirit that indwelt churches (1 Cor 3:16), gave a unified consensus that a book was authoritative from God.
Edward E. Hindson; Elmer Towns
2. What separates the Word of God from other important writings? or other religious writings?
Theologically, “inspiration” is often used for the condition of being directly under divine influence and it is viewed as the equivalent of the Greek term theopneustia, or its adjective theopneustos (cf. 2 Tim. 3:16)
Norman Geisler; William E. Nix
3. Why is it important for Believers to read the Word of God?
The Bible itself tells us that its message is intended to instruct, reprove, and correct (see 2 Tim. 3:16; 4:2). God expects scriptural truths to transform his people. Faithful preaching does the same.

Explain the Biblical and Rational Position.
Although the Bible is written by the hands of men, it’s origin is supernatural
2 Timothy 3:16–17 CSB
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Every word of the Bible was breathed out by God. The message that is conveyed through scripture is one that is supernatural, and beneficial for believers.

theopneustos (θεόπνευστος, 2315), “inspired by God”

It is not of human origin, but it is God’s inspired story and tells God redemptive story.
artist are inspired to paint pictures
Architects are inspired to design builds
God inspired the Word for us
To equip
To complete- not lacking
2 Peter 1:21 CSB
because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Every Word that is inspired by God contains benefits to its readers and hearers
Why is Scripture important?
Paul lists four area that scripture is profitable for in the lives of believers.
Teaching- The Doctrine that is sound. The message of the bible is sound doctrine, but not just for information, but for transformation.

A Peanuts cartoon pictured Lucy and Linus looking out the window at a steady downpour of rain. “Boy,” said Lucy, “look at it rain. What if it floods the whole world?”

“It will never do that,” Linus replied confidently. “In the ninth chapter of Genesis, God promised Noah that would never happen again, and the sign of the promise is the rainbow.”

“You’ve taken a great load off my mind,” said Lucy with a relieved smile.

“Sound theology,” pontificated Linus, “has a way of doing that!”

John 8:32 CSB
You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
2. reproof- The word of God is a proving for the life of the believer. Believers are called to be doers of the word, and therefore the word of God is the standard or the measuring rod by which we assess and make the adjustments needed.
James 1:22 CSB
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
3. correction- Because the Word of God is the standard for faith and living, it bring the correction needed to keep us.
Psalm 119:11 CSB
I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.
4. Training in righteousness- Growing in our Faith.

As a Christian, you have everything you need to be what you ought to be. Spiritual maturity is not a process of gaining things that you did not have when you became a believer.

For example, consider a newborn baby. It isn’t born without arms, and then gets them later. It’s not a pollywog. It doesn’t develop into a frog. When a baby is born, it has all the physical equipment it will ever have. In fact, the older we get, the more stuff we lose!

When you were born in Christ, you were made spiritually whole and have all you will ever need to become mature. It’s only a matter of development until you function in a mature way. You have everything you need—there is no lack, you are complete in the Lord.

With the Goal of making believers complete and equipped
Practically Apply for the Hearer.
God has given us everything we need, and it is His desire for us to be complete and lacking nothing. It is then that we are equipped to the good works that He for us to.
We become tools in the hands of God that are used for His glory.
When we are equipped and we can withstand, because we know the Word of God and the promises of God.
We know who we are in Christ ( 1 Cor 5:17)
We know how to stand in the midst of opposition (Eph 6:10)
We know the that God is with
We know the mission
We have a transformed mind (Romans 12:1)
Summarize and Transition to a Related Invitation
Christians can arrest their development and even permanently damage their faith through sinning. As damaging as sin can be, we need to acknowledge our sin, not because we are lacking anything but because we don’t want to become stunted in our faith.
Bonsai Tree- example

Not, how did he die?

But, how did he live?

Not, what did he gain?

But, what did he give?

These are the merits

To measure the worth

Of a man as a man,

Regardless of birth.

Not, what was his station?

But, had he a heart?

And how did he play

His God-given part?

How does your life look? Whenever we come to the Word of God we have a chance to respond to the reproof. If we find ourselves lacking and their is conviction, then the Spirit who convicts is calling us higher, to be better, and more like Christ.
After reading the Law to the people Moses told the people,
Deuteronomy 30:15–20 CSB
See, today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and adversity. For I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are led astray to bow in worship to other gods and serve them, I tell you today that you will certainly perish and will not prolong your days in the land you are entering to possess across the Jordan. I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, love the Lord your God, obey him, and remain faithful to him. For he is your life, and he will prolong your days as you live in the land the Lord swore to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Today will you respond and choose life! Choose the life that God is calling to too. For some that is returning to God who is waiting for you, to restore you.
For others it is responding to the call of Christ for the first time, accepting His grace, turning from sinning and living the life that is empowered by His Spirit.
