Today I want to take us on a journey of major themes that God has, is and will work together to a fulfillment that only He could do.
I will be using the cross on the wall as an illustration for us to picture what we talk about today.
We will be looking at themes like the covenant of Abraham, the Promised Seed, the purpose of the Law, the power of sin, the need of faith and the salvation gift.
My title of Complete Restoration will make sense with all these themes by the end of the message.
Lets look at the cross. As we do, we see it has four directions that intersect. Let’s look at these and place a word on each. from the top we could place the word salvation. from the bottom we could place salvation. On one side we could put Law, and the other side put sin.
Going back to the beginning in Genesis, we find after the fall, a promise being made.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
When studying this verse, we find a direct connection of Jesus, the Promised Messiah and the prophecy of His future coming to deal with the enemy.
How could a future Messiah come if a generational lineage doesn’t happen? It couldn’t. This is where we find the call and covenant of Abraham.
1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
In Genesis 15 we find a covenant being made and ratified between God and Abraham, that Abraham would have a Son, the Promised Son. Why is this significant? This brings forth the people of God, the Israelites and Jewish nation that Jesus would be born from.
The truly amazing realization about this covenant made is found here.
12 As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him.
Jump down to verse 17.
17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
A little about this type of covenant. Usually the two parties involved in it would both walk through the sacrifices, but in this one we see God only walking through. This statement was God saying that He will fulfill what He said and if He doesn’t or if God breaks the covenant then the curse of the covenant would come on Him.
Abraham only needed to believe. To trust that God would do what He said He would. Abraham had to rely on the Lord God. And he did.
What did his faith produce?
6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
This is why Abraham is called the father of our faith!
This is all a part of the major prophetic word of the seed and Messiah, the redeemer of the world.
