Daniel 2..
So here is the grand story of it all. King Nebuchadnezzar has this dream, and it kinda scares him. He believes that it is of significant proportions, but he has no idea what it means. He calls all of his “wise men”, the ones who deal in matters greater than the common people, and tells them to convey the dream to him.
The magicians (people who were good with tricks, slight of hand, and mysteries) the enchanters (people who chanted evil spells and incantations), the sorcerers (people who talked to the dead and practiced magic with the help of evil spirits), and the Chaldeans (some add astrologers which were people who used horoscopes to try and predict your future depending on the month you were born in and the sign that correlates with it. This has been practiced for thousands of years and they have yet to be right, so why should we listen to them? Plus the practice is condemned by God, so stay away from following your horoscopes. Being an asparagus has nothing to do with the life you will lead.)
These wise men say “Well, tell us the dream and we will tell you what it means.” But the king was not so easily fooled. You see, he knew if he told them the dream then they could easily tell him of some futuristic happenings that will take place long after he is gone, and it would all be a lie. He wanted factual evidence, and if these guys were truly good at what they claimed to be, then they could see the future and predict his dream.
They obviously could do none of this, and this angered the king immensely. He was so angry that he ordered all wise men to be killed. This would include Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. When the news came Daniels ears, he was a little upset and rightfully so. They were about to be killed for something that they never had a hand in. So Daniel asked if they would give him just a little time, and a shot at solving this problem to which the king agreed.
Then Daniel does the only thing that he knows will work time and time again. Do you know what that is? He calls on God. Why does he call on God? Because remember what we talked about last night? God never fails, nor does he abandon us.
If God is the only one who never fails, and Daniel must not fail or he risks his and all the other wise men’s deaths, he has to go to the One who will pull through for him. Daniel grabs his friends, and they begin to earnestly pray. As Daniel lays his head down to sleep, God reveals to him what the kings dream was, and what it meant.
So here is what the dream was: A massive golden statue made of gold (Babylon), brass (Medo-Persians), silver (Greeks), Iron (Rome), and then iron and clay (the future anti-Christ’s kingdom)
The stone that was carved out by no human hands and hurled at the statue, that is Christ. He is the One who will destroy all worldly kingdoms, and set up His eternal kingdom in the end.
You can see why King Neb. would be perplexed, wouldn’t you? What if you had a dream like this, what would you think?
The main take away from this story though, as cool as the statue is, is that God did the impossible. He revealed the dream that another man had in his head, to Daniel. Then He gave Daniel the prophetic interpretation of that dream so that the world might know the significance of the dream, and Daniel may keep his head.
So what does that mean for you and I? Do we serve the same God? The same God who created the world, saw Daniel through his difficult moments. This same God is the God that you and I serve everyday. He is the One who hears our prayers. He is the One who sustains our lives just as He did Daniel’s. You can expect the same level of supernatural aid as Daniel did.
Now hear is the thing. God is not likely to give you the knowledge of another beings thoughts or dreams, but why would you need that? Daniel needed this information because his life depended on it. God will provide for you in the same manner, with all of His knowledge and power, just in the specific ways that you need here on earth in this day and age, and specific to your life.
What do you need to do? Where did Daniel turn in his time of need? Straight to God. He saw no avenue other than going to the Lord with his problems. Neither should we. When we find ourselves in difficult situations, there is no one better to turn to than to our God. Seeking human intervention is good sometimes, but it will never be superior to God’s guidance. When you are in need, turn to Him. He will be there with your best. Why? Because God never fails, and He is always by our side.
