Great Outcry
Great Outcry
Abraham receives great news and then difficult news
God has heard the outcry against Sodom
up to this point we have only had hints that there are wicked people there
The king of Sodom was kind to Abraham
Lot lives there with his family
however, there are cries from God’s creation
the theme of the old testament from beginning to end is that God hears and sees when his creation is crying out to him of injustice
a strange scene to think of God needing to visit somewhere in person to know something
Maybe to show the severity of the destruction, that God would go himself in person
Abraham’s Challenge
Abraham’s Challenge
Abraham, knowing that Lot’s family is there, tries to spare the place for the sake of his kin
the judge of all the earth- God recognized as this long before the end times are mentioned
how many righteous people are enough to spare a place filled with wickedness and injustice?
Abraham goes all the way down to ten
God will spare just the one righteous man for Abraham’s sake
Lot Rescued
Lot Rescued
two messengers rather than one but written of like they are the same ones who were just talking with Abraham
Lot invites them in
an account of the wickedness of the people is given- they take whatever they desire and have no thoughts about
the messengers tell Lot to leave with his family and avoid destruction after saving him
Lot and his wife and daughters leave the city, his sons in law would not leave
Lot’s wife looks back and is destroyed
Abraham looks upon the city and sees that there were not any righteous left
weird family history comes from this story as well
Application
Application
Sodom and Gomorrah are an example case for the rest of the bible
God is just to save those who will follow him but to destroy those who are wicked
he cannot be just if he does not do both
more than that, he has mercy on us even though what we deserve is to be destroyed
