Last month we talked about how you see yourself
How have you have changed your thinking or got an image of changes you want to see?
How many of you would care to share what you’ve got?
What have you implemented to help achieve this view?
What scriptures are you using to back you up?
Topics we’ve discussed:
Who’s on your team, 3,12,70
for us it will be your personal 3, and your department or down line 5
Being intentional with our growth
what are we doing today to effect tomorrow
Focusing on the who
Focusing on who we want to be
What our future self looks like
setting goals
“Enthusiasm is common, endurance is rare” -Angela Duckworth
1. Set a Goal
Defining wins and setting goals is how we begin our journey
Without defined wins we have nothing to shoot for
2 Then the Lord answered me and said:
“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
Your goals need to be:
1. Clear
2. Deliberate
3. Achievable
4. Stretch you
Without goals it’s easy to get obsessed with other people’s finish lines
We are living in a society that we see others peoples lives (celebrities, influencers, friends)
We start to see the things they have and decide that’s what we want
We’re like a fish attracted to shiny things
Pretty soon we’re putting effort and energy into a life we never wanted in the first place
All because we weren’t focused and dedicated
10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them.
I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure,
For my heart rejoiced in all my labor;
And this was my reward from all my labor.
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done
And on the labor in which I had toiled;
And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind.
There was no profit under the sun.
We’re like people who are grasping for the wind
End up in the wrong place empty handed
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
It wasn’t yours to begin with!
Start with the Vision and goal God put in your heart!
13 For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. 14 And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,
Paul had a specific goal and that caused him to be intentional with his life
When Sarah and I got intentional with our faith:
We set goals for things we were believing for
Wrote them down
Set our faith for them
When we are intentional and specific with our faith God shows up supernaturally
HOMEWORK (Do it!):
Prayerfully decide what your win is in your:
Relationship with God
2. Relationship with your Spouse or Family (single or married)
3. Health
4. Finances
5. Career
You cannot do what you don’t define
Aim small- miss small
Get specific with God
2. Set a deadline
Without a deadline, you don’t give yourself a reason to take a goal seriously
Most project you give extended time to will take just that
Set ambitious deadlines
Without deadlines your waiting for goals to come to you
There’s something about setting a timeframe for your Faith to operate in
Sarah and believing for our house to sell
3. Dedicate yourself
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
They committed themselves to doing it
They dedicated themselves
“Winners don’t try, they train.” -Craig Groeshel
We’re not here to talk about how cool our church could or should be
We’re here to dedicate ourselves to what God has called us to be
27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.
Train yourself
Dedicate yourself to a better version of You
“A goal is not enough because winner and losers often begin with the same goals” - Graig Groeshel
Dedicate yourself to the process
Dedicate yourself to the training:
Bible reading
Prayer
Speaking the Word
Renewing your mind
“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.” - Yoda
Why can’t you do it today?
There’s no better place than here and there’s no better time than now
Dedicate yourself to your goals and strategic habits
You can’t change your destination today but you can change your direction
3K, 10k, 21k, Training for a triathlon
I had to sign up and set a deadline or I’d just be waiting around
ON the other side of your dedication is the opening of opportunities
25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
“Nothing is easier than saying words and nothing is harder than living them day after day”-John Maxwell
