Luke 5:17–25 (NKJV)

17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18 Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. 20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk’? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 25 Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

One of my favorite movies to watch as a child were marvel movies!

Movies like spider man,

Iron man

Captain America

I liked marvel because these characters were some of the most powerful beings on earth!

Spider man had super human strength, amazing speed, and a web that allows him to stick to anything?

Then there’s iron man who had a suit that was almost indestructible

Then there was the Incredible Hulk!

Who had amazing supernatural strength! He was the biggest and strongest of them all!

and while I loved these characters,

And they always came out on top!

And I loved these characters,

But I realized!

That the power of these fictional characters are limited

Spider man is nothing without his suit!

Iron man is nothing with out his suit!

The Incredible Hulk is nothin as a regular man!

All of these characters are fictional characters with limited powers

But the man we’re about to learn about to day!

Was not at all a fictional character

He walked the face of this earth

He healed the sick

He raised the dead

He opened blinded eyes and the truth is,

This is a man, whose power is not limited!

He can do it all

and I’m here to tell you that be it physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional, Jesus has the power to address and take care of all of our needs.

We are in continuing in the book of Luke. The beloved physician.

Luke is writing this message to the Theophilus, name meaning “one who loves God” , to present Jesus in a way as a theologian stated that shows him as the perfect human and savior.

and it is here where Luke is writing from a physican’s perspective, highlighting the true power of Jesus Christ.

and it’s in Chapter 5 where we see that Jesus is fresh of an amazing Miracle,

where he teaches fishermen what fishing is all about.

He’s still early in his ministry,

But He’s gained some status,

He’s grown a bit ,

He’s gained a bit of popularity now,

There are wispers going on about this man,

And it is there, where Pharisees and teachers of the Law, have gathered, to see what this Man is all about,

They’ve come from everywhere, Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem,

They’ve piled up and packed into a house, just to see what the fuss is about,

The house is so packed now,

That there’s a line outside,

PEOPLE EVERYWHERE to see what is going on.

The Bible says he’s teaching, but the power of the Lord is present to heal.

He’s teaching, But has some power to heal

He’s teaching, But he can do so much more

He’s teaching, but they are spectating

He’s teaching, But they are about to leave the same way they came,

He’s teaching, but there’s no expectation,

He can do so much more but because of the lack of expectation,

To this point, He’s only teaching

But HE IS OMNIPITENT,

and God’s omnipotence is not a concept of Fiction, but it’s a concrete reality that we can all trust in.

He is not limited by our finite mindset

He is not limited frame of thought.

HE IS GOD.

He is a healer AND

he is a providor AND

he is a way maker AND

he CAN DRY YOUR TEARS AND

he can fix your marriage and

he can make the lame walk and

he can make the blind see and

he can make he can make the mute talk and

he can forgive your sins AND

He can take care of your anxiety and

He can give you joy in sorry and

He can give you hope for tomorrow AND

HE CAN GIVE YOU PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING

HE, CAN DO IT ALL.

But we often miss the move of God, because of our lack of expectation.

There are though, some people who knew what he could do,

and this is how

Jesus Sees their Faith

Jesus sees their faith.

As a crowd is gathering and the house is packed, there are four men,

Who are carrying a paralyzed man on a mat!

One man at each corner.

I don’t know how far they’ve come but I know they had to carry him from somewhere!

Just imagine, whereever they heard that this man is in town,

who had been on a healing spree!

Who’d been moving, and changing

the trajectory of people’s lives

And with looks of expectation in their eyes, they come up with a plan!

If we carry him together then we can all get him to Jesus

They had faith in the power of Jesus!

That if we can just get him in Jesus’ presence, this man’s life will be changed for the better!

They had faith in the power of Jesus.

We don’t know if they met him previously

but they had faith in the power of Jesus

We don’t know if they had an encounter or not But they had faith in the power of Jesus

We don’t know if Jesus healed their cousins, or uncles, or friends but they had faith in the power of Jesus

We don’t know what they had, or who they were, or how they heard, all we know is They had faith enough to believe that Jesus Had the power to heal this man!

So much faith that when they got to the house and saw the people crowded in the house

They did not give up, they did not throw in the towel!

They were too close not to find a way!

So looking around the house trying to find the entrance!

There is no back door, the windows were locked, they couldn’t go through the garage!!

But they were persistent!

They did not wallow in the failures of not getting through the front door! They were persistent

They come up with another plan!

What about the roof!

They take him to the roof

Arms tired from carrying him around

Legs tired from walking up the stairs!

They measure the distance from the roof to Jesus, and they begin to dig!!

Digging a hole just bing enough for the man to fit his whole body through,

They take take the four corners of the mat. And match the four corners of the hole in the roof

And while he’s teaching,

while he has everyone’s attention,

There is a man coming from the roof who looks like he has a disease

At this point,

The attention is not on the crowd

The attention is not on the text

The attention is not even on the man

But the Bible says,

Jesus SEES THEIR FAITH.

Their faith in his power

Their faith despite their problems

Their faith i. Their persistence

He saw their faith, and he acts!

He saw their faith, put into action

He saw their faith, which prompted him to move

And I came to encourage you!

That Jesus is Omni present!

He is everywhere at the same time!!

He sees your struggles

He sees your heartache

He sees you serving when you don’t feel like it

He sees the hours spent on studying

He sees you in your prayer time

He sees how you praise him when it doesn’t work

He sees how you still believe despite your problems

He sees you having faith in your finances!!

Jesus sees it all!!

And I know you think he may not be paying attention but he sees you!

And because of the faith and expectation you have he’s getting ready to move!

Jesus SEES their faith!

The Bible says he sees their faith

And because of Their faith he

Secures the Man’s Future

Jesus says “your sins are forgiven”

This issue that this paralized man had was deeper than the surface level.

On the surface he was paralized physically, but if you look deeper, he was paralized Spiritually.

On the surface he’s not walking on the earth, but if you look deeper, He’s not walking with the Lord

On the surface he is helpless in his every day life, but if you look deeper he was helpless in his eternity.

On the surface, healing his legs would have fixed it, but if you look deeper, he still would have been broken.

Jesus does not Just see the surface of this problem, But Jesus looks deeper.

Jesus has the power to see past the surface of you problems.

It’s bigger than my marriage,

It’s bigger than my money

It’s bigger than them acting up in school

It’s bigger than them fighting

It’s bigger than her acting like she’s acting

It’s bigger than bad grades

It’s bigger than them being quiet.

It’s bigger than all of that.

Jesus teaching us that a Secured future makes for a PEACEFUL PRESENT.

To this point, Jesus has only done surface level things.

But Jesus shows them, THATS NOT ALL I CAN DO.

Because what’s the point of Good legs, with a Bad heart?

In this time, it was believed that one who had an infirmity, had it as a result of their sins or their families sin,

So when Jesus says, your sins are forgiven,

Jesus is saying IM GETTING TO THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE.

and some of us are in the same problems that we were before, because we only believe God for the surface.

but if we really want to see some thing shake, take your eyes off of the present and focus on the future.

Jesus is so powerful, he that he eliminated the reason he got their in the first place, so when it is that I deliever you, you wont go back to where you once were.

he says before I deal with your right now, I want to take care of your not yet. HE SECURES HIS FUTURE.

He sees their faith

He secures their future

BUT LASTLY,

3.JESUS SHOWCASES HIS POWER

The Bible says that people are trying to reason in their hearts what Just happened.

Jesus says which one is easier, rise up and walk, or your sins are forgiven,

Jesus says, so that you know that i can do It all, Not only are your sins forgiven,

But rise, take up your bed, and walk.

Here’s the thing.

when Jesus says your sins are forgiven, was Jesus proving his power,

when he says rise up and walk, JESUS showcases his power.

When Jesus says “Your sins are forgiven” he sows his power to the paralized man,

When Jesus says “Rise up and walk” He shows his power to the naysayers

and some of you all now are mad at the naysayers,

But the naysayers are just a conduit for Jesus to showcase his power.

How did they get to college, BECAUSE HE SHOWCASED HIS POWER

HOW DID THEY GET MARRIED-BECAUSE HE SHOWCASED HIS POWER

HOW DID THEY GET OVER THAT SICKNESS- BECAUSE HE SHOWCASED HIS POWER

HOW DID THEY MAKE IT OUT OF THAT MARRIAGE CRISIS- BECAUSE HE SHOWCASED HIS POWER

JESUS CAN DO IT ALL.

HE CAN SEE YOU

HE CAN SECURE YOU

BUT HE CAN SHOW CASE HIS POWER

AND HE’S CONTINUING TO SHOWCASE HIS POWER.

WHEN THERE WERE ONLY 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and 5 thousand people to feed- He showcased his power and fed them all

When there was a man with a withered had in the synagague on the sabbath- he showcased his power and what was once withered was now whole

when lazarus was dead for 4 days, he showcased his power and resurected lazarus from the dead.

when a widowed woman was burrying her son- he showcased his power by resurrecting what was once dead

and when they beat him and brusided him,

mocked him and spit on him

pulled his hair out

nailed his hands

ribbed his feet

pierced his side

put a crown of thorns on his head

and layed him in a borrowed tomb- he showcased his power.

because EARLY SUNDAY MORNING

A FULL TOMB WAS NOW EMPTIED.

AND HE WHO WAS ONCE DEAD IS NOW ALIVE.

BECAUSE WE SERVE A GOD, WHO CAN DO IT ALL.
