Introduction
Greetings…
Theme: The Godhead
Hope: To draw closer to God the Father, Son, and Spirit by having a more detailed examination of each one within the Godhead and their specific roles that can be known.
Two weeks ago, we finished looking at God the Father by pointing out the “Attributes Of The Father.”
We examined how God the Father…
Sends physical and spiritual blessings.
Rewards and punishes.
Makes known and hides.
Makes and keeps promises.
Is forgiving and vengeful.
Loves and hates.
Is merciful and jealous.
Is worthy of our worship.
Today, we are going to being our look at the last personality within the Godhead in our study, Jesus the Christ.
There is perhaps no other person in the Godhead studied more than Jesus and yet there is also no one known less by the majority of those that claim Christianity.
As I have said many times, most people have no idea who the “Jesus of the bible” is only the Jesus of their imagination.
This morning, we are going to set out to study Jesus of the bible by looking at “Jesus The Creator.”
We can’t discuss Jesus as Creator without first pointing out…
Jesus Is God
Jesus Is God
He Has All The Divine Attributes.
He Has All The Divine Attributes.
Jesus is Omnipresent.
Matthew 18:20 (ESV)
20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.
Revelation 1:17 (ESV)
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last”
Jesus is Omnipotent.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Jesus is Omniscient.
John 4:16–19 (ESV)
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.”
This, of course, aligns with the rest of scripture which clearly says…
He Is God.
He Is God.
The apostle John declared this truth.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Thomas declared it and Jesus affirmed it.
28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Summary
Summary
There is no doubt that God became flesh (John 1:14) and that was Jesus born to the virgin Mary (Galatians 4:4).
From a theological, biblical, and historical point of view this is without dispute.
So, let us then examine what we know about Jesus in his role as part of the Godhead in creation.
Jesus In Creation
Jesus In Creation
He Is The Builder.
He Is The Builder.
The bible is without dispute on who built the physical and spiritual creation.
3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
It is plainly obvious that this is the case and might I just add how impressive this is.
It took the Father, Son, and Spirit six days to create everything that was created.
What else might can we know about Jesus in creation?
He Is The Sustainer.
He Is The Sustainer.
Jesus not only built all all things created but he also sustains that creation.
Hebrews 1:3 (ESV)
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
I don’t claim to understand exactly how Jesus sustains his creation but I am thankful he does.
As a simple side note, this sustaining seems uniquely attached to his second coming and everything being destroyed afterwards (2 Peter 3:10-11).
Lastly, when we examine Jesus in creation we find…
He Makes New Creations Still.
He Makes New Creations Still.
God the Son, Jesus the Christ, is not only creator of all things created in the universe both in the physical and spiritual realm but continue to “make new creations” by way of his blood.”
When we obey the gospel we are washed by the blood of Christ.
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Revelation 7:14 (ESV)
14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
When this happens and we are raised to walk in that newness of life we are a “new creation.”
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Summary
Summary
When it comes to Jesus’ role in creation…
He is the builder of all the physical and spiritual creation.
He is the sustainer of his creation and will uphold it until his return.
He is continually making “new creations” as people submit to the will of the Father in his plan of salvation.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Jesus is God and has all the attributes of deity.
And as such he had a major role in creation which means he is keenly aware of us “his creation” both physically and spiritually.
Like the Father and Spirit, the Son knows us, loves us, and wants us to spend an eternity with him in his abode.
Invitation
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
