Exodus, Romans and Matthew

The Gospel of Matthew is known for calling us into a life of discipleship. In the Gospel today, we are reminded of the names of the twelve apostles. Jesus tells them that instead of going into pagan territory, they should go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and say ‘the Kingdom of heaven is at hand’. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.
Have you ever had a mentor? A mentor can be a really practical help to you in your own life of discipleship.
Discipleship is the process of devoting oneself to a teacher to learn from and become more like them. We learn from Jesus and following after his example in obedience through the power of the Holy Spirit. Discipleship not only involves the process of becoming a disciple but of making other disciples through teaching and evangelism.
The implication here is that our behaviour changes, our lives change. To root of this word is ‘to learn’.
You cannot give what you do not have -
All of us should find someone more mature in the Christian life to invest in us and likewise should find someone who is younger in the faith and impact them, too.
Swallow your pride and find someone to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our Opening Prayer today invited God to grant us always the help of his grace, so that in following his commands we may always please him by our resolve and our deeds.
The Exodus passage today reminds us that we will be a kingdom of priests, a holy nation. God call us - but are we listening? Are we like the Israelites who complain and groan over the slightest things?
