Tuesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time Year 1
I always remember those days when my sister, brothers, and I sat at one table to do homework and study together because we did not have electric light like today. We had only one oil lamp for the whole house, and many activities depended on the lamp's light. And when my parents turned off the light, we could not do anything else; that was the time to go to bed.
I want to use that image of our night's activities depending on the only light for the whole house to compare with the Light of Christ we received at our baptism.
So, the lamp light became our light that help us to do things in the darkness.
So, what is the function of the light.
Today in the gospel Jesus said, “it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father."
Today's Gospel Jesus challenges us to ask, "What can I do to share God's love in the world?" And the answer is we have received the light of Christ at the baptism, so be a light to the world. We are called to be the light to shine and guide people to God by our words and actions.
Today together with the Church, we are celebrating the feast of St Anthony of Padua, who lived a life following the light of Christ in the 13th-century. He was a light of Christ in sharing God's love through his word and deed.

We are called to be the world's light by following the example of St. Anthony. The world will be impacted for better or for worse by the way we live our lives. When we fail to be light, the world suffers. But when we imitate Christ's love, mercy, and generosity, the world will see our good deeds and glorify our heavenly Father (5:16).
