Hope in the Lord’s Forgiving Love

All through out history, the people of God has been in constant spiritual warfare with sin and the sinful nature...
Many have faltered and wandered and defeated at some point. But what we always find in God’s Word is that by God’s grace and mercy, the people God were able to overcome and bounce back. 1 John 5:4-5
1 John 5:4–5 NIV
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
Tonight, let us study the life of one of the servant of God, the man after God’s own heart..David.....and let us learn from Him how he handles the many burdens, heartaches, pain, and desperation caused by his SIN…SINS that may come to every believer, especially those who are serving the Lord.
David himself had his fair share of troubles that brought him many occasions of desperations…This times of desperation led David to humble himself before His Holy and Merciful God. and David composed a lot of songs in the Psalms to express his emotions and thoughts about His life and about His God, and Psalm 130 is one of the many Psalms he composed.

I. David’s situation (vv. 1-3)

Desperation, because of sin (v.3)
David cried upon the Lord (vv. 1-2)
David prayed to the Lord, asking for mercy and forgiveness.
There is nothing more discouraging and disparaging to the people of God than the presence of sin that easily entangles…David, was not exempt from this.
But instead of staying in the pit of darkness and desperation caused by his sin, He cried out, hoping to be heard, and perhaps help will come and he find relief.
Like David we find ourselves in a pit of desperation because of sin. Sin that maybe caused by loss of personal devotion and prayer life, lack of discipline, wrong decisions, poor judgments, family problems...etc...issues and concerns of life which could make us heavily burdened, thus making us ineffective in our calling...
Like David, we can call upon the Lord for mercy and forgiveness. To humble and admit our sins and accept corrections from the Lord.

II. David’s belief about God’s Character (vv. 2-4)

This is David’s comfort, as well as ours.
God hears (v.2)
God forgives (v.3)
God is to be revered (v.4)
God hears (v.2) Psalm 69:33 33 For the Lord hears the needy
And does not despise His who are prisoners.
God forgives (v.3)
- Praise God that He provided the solution for sins to be forgiven - through the blood of Christ, the blood of the new covenant.
Ephesians 1:7 NIV
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
- To those who are in Christ, their sins have been forgiven.
- There are now no condemnation to those who are in Christ (Romans 8)
God is to be revered (v.4)- God forgives so that the forgiven will fear Him.
- The forgiveness of God cannot be treated lightly.
- God’s forgiveness turns sinners into saints, people who follow Him in obedience.
The Kindness of the God should lead us to repentance.

III. David’s Response to the truth of God’s Character (vv.5-6)

David waits for the Lord (dependence). (v.5)
David hopes in God’s Word (promises) (v.5)
David waits with expectancy and fervency like the watchmen (v.6)
As the morning comes without fail, the Lord’s help will come without fail.
let me end with this great reminder to put our hope in Jesus Christ and to draw near to His throne of Grace.
Hebrews 4:15–16 NIV
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
