This morning we talk about a man named Moses. A man that was very broken. Moses had killed someone. Moses ran and lived in the wilderness were he encountered God in a burning bush. God asked him to lead the nation of Israel our of Egypt.
Q: How did Moses respond to God’s plan?
A: He said, please God send someone else. Send someone better than me.
Now tonight I want us to look at how the N.T. described Moses.
Hebrews 11:23–29 CSB
23 By faith Moses, after he was born, was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they didn’t fear the king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter 25 and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin. 26 For he considered reproach for the sake of Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since he was looking ahead to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king’s anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees him who is invisible. 28 By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch the Israelites. 29 By faith they crossed the Red Sea as though they were on dry land. When the Egyptians attempted to do this, they were drowned.
What statement is used over and over again when referring to the acts of Moses?
By Faith...
Now this morning when we talked about Moses did it seem like he was a man of great faith?
So then what happened?
Why does the New testament put Moses in this passage about great faith?
Let’s look at the rest of the story.
So Moses goes to Pharoah to tell him to let the Isrealites go.

Plague #1 - God tells Moses to go to Pharoah and strike the water and it will turn into blood.

Exodus 7:19 CSB
19 So the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers, canals, ponds, and all their water reservoirs—and they will become blood. There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers.”
Exodus 7:20 CSB
20 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded; in the sight of Pharaoh and his officials, he raised the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile was turned to blood.
Plague #2 - Frogs
Exodus 8:1–9 CSB
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and tell him: This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 2 But if you refuse to let them go, then I will plague all your territory with frogs. 3 The Nile will swarm with frogs; they will come up and go into your palace, into your bedroom and on your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and kneading bowls. 4 The frogs will come up on you, your people, and all your officials.” 5 The Lord then said to Moses, “Tell Aaron: Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, canals, and ponds, and cause the frogs to come up onto the land of Egypt.” 6 When Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 But the magicians did the same thing by their occult practices and brought frogs up onto the land of Egypt. 8 Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Appeal to the Lord to remove the frogs from me and my people. Then I will let the people go and they can sacrifice to the Lord.” 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor of choosing. When should I appeal on behalf of you, your officials, and your people, that the frogs be taken away from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile?”
Exodus 8:10 CSB
10 “Tomorrow,” he answered. Moses replied, “As you have said, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God,
Exodus 8:11 CSB
11 the frogs will go away from you, your houses, your officials, and your people. The frogs will remain only in the Nile.”
Who was talking to Pharoah....?
Wait wasn’t Aaron there because Moses was too afraid to speak?

Third Plaque - Gnats

Exodus 8:16–17 CSB
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron: Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the land, and it will become gnats throughout the land of Egypt.” 17 And they did this. Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff, and when he struck the dust of the land, gnats were on people and animals. All the dust of the land became gnats throughout the land of Egypt.

Fourth Plaque - Swarms of flies

so what happened?
Exodus 8:20–21 CSB
20 The Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and present yourself to Pharaoh when you see him going out to the water. Tell him: This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 21 But if you will not let my people go, then I will send swarms of flies against you, your officials, your people, and your houses. The Egyptians’ houses will swarm with flies, and so will the land where they live.
Fifth Plague - Death of Livestock.
Sixth Plague - Boils
seventh Plague - Hail
Eight Plague - Locust
Ninth Plaque - Darkness
Tenth Plague - Darkness
Moses began to see the power of God and it seems he completely forgot that he wasn’t a good speaker. God doesn’t need you to be good at the task he calls you too.
God took what was broken in Moses and used it for his purposes.
2 Corinthians 12:9 CSB
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.
This means the very thing that we think is too broken for God to use is the very thing in which he often chooses to use. to show his power. It’s an amazing thing to be used by God when you know without him you would be useless.
