God’s Plan
To rescue us because of our fallen nature)
And to give us eternal life and abundant life here on earth
2. His purpose
To live lives that glorify Him and to walk in the good works, which He planned long ago
Last Month we left off on
(V3) “By are very nature we are subject to God’s anger”
A) Paul is reminding us where we came from and the judgement we were facing before we accepted Christ
OUR NATURE
Psalm 51:5 “For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.”
Rom 5:12 “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.”
People struggle to understand why they need a savior because they do not have a proper understanding of the nature of man
People say, “I’m a good person”
By whose standard, yours or God’s?
GOD’S PLAN
(V4) But God
A) Rich in mercy
Psalm 103:8-11 “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.”
Not getting what we deserve
B) God’s motivation is His great love
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Sometimes we can over look the suffering of Christ
*Betrayed
*Beaten
* Mocked
* Spit on
2. (V5) God sent Christ to redeem us, through His death and resurrection
Rom 5:8 “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
He didn’t wait for us to get cleaned up
2.1 He gave us life
A) Eternal life (Living forever in the presence of God)
John 3:16 ““For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Eternal life
With God forever
No suffering
No sin
B) Abundant life
John 10:10 “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
Paul began this epistle by reminding us of our riches in Christ (Spiritual blessings)
The life God has for you is far better than living for yourself
3. (V6) We have been given life and we share in His honor
Before we accepted Christ into our heart we spiritually dead
4. (V7) We are examples of God’s grace and kindness because were are united in Christ
A) We each have a story of who we were before Christ rescued us
I’m reminded of the man filled with a legion of demons.
Everyone knew he was nuts, and when Jesus healed the man.
He said go home and show yourself to everyone that they would see the compassion I had on you
5. (V8) Saved by grace through faith
John 1:12 “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Christology, which is the doctrine of Jesus
What are the fundamentals we believe about Jesus?
We believe Jesus was 100 percent both God and man, He was born of a virgin, He lived a without sin
We believe He died for the sin of the world, then God raised Him from the dead on the third day, and reigns with God
A) Saved by faith alone
Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”*
Acts 16:31 “They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.””
B) Faith is more than a word, and it always requires action
James 2:18-20 “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”
Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?”
Charles Spurgeon said this, “The grace of God that does not change a life, does not save a soul”.
6. (V10) Created for good works
A) What good works does God want to do in and through you?
A) He wants us to live a life of obedience
1 Sam 15:22 “But “Obedience is better than sacrifice”
B) God doesn’t need us to serve Him, but He chooses to us
