Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus A
I had a chance to visit a cancer-suffering woman at a hospital. Before seeing the patient, I learned that she had bone cancer, and it was severely painful.
I entered the room. I saw her praying in silence for 1 minute, and when it was so painful, she started praying in a loud voice with the most powerful prayer I have ever experienced from a suffering patient. She prayed in tears and suffering. She spoke directly to Jesus as He was there with her. She prayed, "Jesus, I am so painful, I cannot bear this pain anymore; please take it away from me if it is your will, not mine. I praise you, Jesus, I thank you, Jesus, I know you are merciful, please, please, please forgive me and please help me carry this pain, and if you want, please heal me so that I can go to the bathroom by myself, I want to go to the bathroom by myself, I just want to go out a little bit. Jesus, why am I so painful? Why do I have to carry this heavy cross? I know you are here with me; please show compassion to your suffering servant asking you for help; I cannot bear it anymore. Jesus, help me!"
After 15 minutes of suffering the pain, she kept asking us why she must suffer the pain. Why did God let this happen to her? The only answer I gave was, "I am sorry, I do not know,"
And the next question she asked me was, does Jesus know I am suffering?
What do you think?
We all do not know fully why we must suffer in life, but there is one thing I am sure is that God knows our sufferings. Jesus himself did not escape the suffering. Jesus knows the pain because he suffered a painful death on the cross for our sake.
Jesus knows human sufferings, weaknesses, and emotional struggles, and he is always present with those suffering because he went through it and has a human heart like us. There was a saying that "if God did not become human, then he would be far from us and was not able to understand that human fully, but since he became one of us, then he is not far from our life; he is close to every human being, close to our hearts."
St. Augustine said, "In my heart of hearts," "God is closer to me than I am to myself, "Restless is our heart until it rests in you, O God." 'God is closer to us than we are to ourselves.'
Jesus knows life is not an easy journey, so he said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart.
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
I want to conclude with a poem by – St. Teresa of the Child Jesus
"To the Sacred Heart of Jesus":
I need a heart burning with tenderness.
Who will be my support forever,
Who loves everything within me, even my weakness...
And who never leaves me day or night.
I could find no creature.
Who could always love me and never die?
I must have a God who takes on my nature
And becomes my brother and is able to suffer!
You heard me, only Friend whom I love.
To ravish my heart, you became man.
You shed your blood, what a supreme mystery!
And you still love for me on the Altar.
If I cannot see the brilliance of your Face
Or hear your sweet voice,
O my God, I can live by your Grace,
I can rest on your Sacred Heart!
O Heart of Jesus, treasure of tenderness,
You Yourself are my happiness, my only hope.
You who knew how to charm my tender youth,
Stay near me till the last night.
Lord, to you alone I've given my life,
And all my desires are well known to you.
It's in your ever-infinite goodness
That I want to lose myself, O Heart of Jesus!
