WHY?…
TODAY: Seek Wisdom
Opening Scripture:
Ephesians 6:4 “4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Encyclopedia of 7700 Illustrations (1629 Father’s Day Phone Calls)
1629 Father’s Day Phone CallsThe Illinois Bell Telephone Co. reports that the volume of long-distance calls made on Father’s Day is growing faster than the number on Mother’s Day. The company apologized for the delay in compiling the statistics, but explained that extra billing of calls to fathers slowed things down. Most of them were “collect.”
WISDOM or not?
Do NOT seek wisdom of this world!
Do NOT seek wisdom of this world!
1 Corinthians 2:4-6 “4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.”
Examples of wisdom of this world:
Self-promotes
Seeks the highest place
“Love is love” - no love is Jesus dying on the cross in our place, so that those who believe in Him can be dead to sin and alive to God. (We want to see people SET FREE by the power of God)
Seek the wisdom of God
Seek the wisdom of God
Proverbs 22:17-21 “17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, 18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. 19 That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made them known to you today, even to you. 20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings of counsel and knowledge, 21 to make you know what is right and true, that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?”
1 Corinthians 1:20-24 “20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
Hayford’s Bible Handbook (Wisdom)
Biblical wisdom unites God, the Source of all understanding, with daily life, where the principles of right living are put into practice.
Examples of Godly wisdom:
Elevates others
Die to yourself to Follow Jesus
Submits to the Word of God and the empowering, transforming, and leading of the Holy Spirit.

Proverbs 29:11 “11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.”
Eph. 4:29 “29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
Eph. 4:32 “32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Proverbs 19:11 “11 Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.”
CONCLUSION/RELFECTION:
James 1:5 “5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
