To Timothy my true son in the faith:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.
Faith must be passed on to others.
Faith must be passed on to others.
We sit here today because of this truth. Someone shared the Gospel with you and we must do the same.
We must have “hands on” involvement.
We must have “hands on” involvement.
Though we live in a world where information can be obtained by anyone with access or just a couple taps of the fingers, we cannot forget how different “faith” is. Paul writes these letters, which I am glad the early church under the leading and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, kept for us as he was hands on in the life of Timothy.
Help our “kids” remember key spiritual events.
Help our “kids” remember key spiritual events.
This is important so they may continue on. Paul seems to be implying those who have left the faith and are following the myriad of speculations, conspiracy theories, etc have forgotten.
Growing those who have: pure hearts, sincere faiths, and a good conscience.
Growing those who have: pure hearts, sincere faiths, and a good conscience.
Nothing spectacular in some ways. Nothing that will “win prizes” by many or any standards on Earth. But what I believe is needed now more than ever.
Who will be your “Timothy”?
Who will be your “Timothy”?
On this Father’s Day that is my challenge. We all can point, hopefully, to a “Paul” in our life. A person who is helping us to navigate the Christian faith. But, we must be intentionally looking to pour into someone else. This is the hard work of our faith. It won’t happen overnight and there many be many times you think you are failing. You can’t do this from a distance or by being a spectator either.
