Proposition - As we look to Scripture this morning we are going to learn what to do if a fellow believer is living in sin: 1) go to them in private, 2) take someone with you, and 3) if they do not repent bring it before the church.
Interrogative question - How do you know when you need to confront someone about sin?
You must remember this passage in light of what we discussed last week. Does anyone remember? (it was about the lost sheep) - The goal in that parable was not to hurt the sheep rather to rescue it.
Have you ever had to tell someone about something that you thought they did wrong?
How did it go?
Where you right in your perception?
Has anyone ever confronted you about something that you did?
How did it go?
Were they right?
If they were wrong what did you do?

Step 1 - GO TO THEM IN PRIVATE - VS. 15

Matthew 18:15–17 (NASB95)
15 “If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
Why would Jesus talk about disciple?
Why would you ever point someone’s sin out to them?
Whats the goal of discipline?
If you have to confront someone what should you do?
Proverbs 25:9 NASB95
9 Argue your case with your neighbor, And do not reveal the secret of another,

Step 2 - TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU - VS. 16

16 “But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed.
Why might someone not listen?
What’s the purpose of taking someone with you? (is this gossip??)
Deuteronomy 19:15 NASB95
15 “A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.

Step 3 - TELL IT TO THE CHURCH - VS. 17

17 “If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Why would someone continue to refuse to listen?
How do you know if you reach this point?
Why would you put them out of the church?
SO WHAT??
Believer - How do you know when you need to confront someone about sin?
Galatians 6:1 NASB95
1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
Unbeliever - Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand!!
