Psalm 1 (KJV 1900)
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
As we continue our series of on it take discipline to become a disciple.
I want to remind each of you that God’s desires a healthy church.
Healthy means functional, useful, and effective in every area of life. Doing what you were designed to do and becoming what you were designed to become .
The purpose of this WORD today is to empower you to become all that God has called you to be!
God wants you to be whole, to flourish, to grow and to accomplish HIS purpose that HE has designed and called to fulfill. He wants you to prosper as your soul prosper.
3 John 2 KJV 1900
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV 1900
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Healthy means we trust and obey God no matter what we face.
To this this we must develop Godly habit, practices, and spiritual disciplines.
I want is all to be on the same page of what this term mean.
Spiritual disciplines are biblical practices and commands that we, disciples of Christ, Kingdom citizens intentionally, strategically, and habitually do to connect to God grace, love, direction, and purpose.
No spiritual causes us to earn God’s love. However, spiritual discipline open and transforms us to receive God’s love.
Spiritual habits include:
Prayer, bible reading, meditation, fasting, studying, fellowship, worship and serving.
Today we will share about the discipline of meditation.
The term meditate or meditation is mentioned 23 times on Bible
Biblical Meditation is one the most tranformative disipline because it deal with a continual pondering, muttering, imagine. That is done over and over.
Every one meditate on something.
If a person meditate on their concerns, hardships, struggles, failures, past difficulties, devastating news it called worry, agitation, and anxious.
This causes distress, health problem, lack of productivity, and dysfunction.
Let choose to meditate on God’s WORD
Biblical meditation is associated with blessings , stability, soundness, prosperity, and peace.
What is Biblical Meditation is filling the mind with God truth.
Joshua 1:8 KJV 1900
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Meditated is the Hebrew yeh - geh
means give serious though and consideration to a selected information and speaking in low tones review the material over and over.
Like slowly chewing , getting all the nutrients.
Sometime we skim and go over the Word to fast.
We live in fast microwave society
Let take time to get alone and meditate.
Spiritual exercise focused on Scripture. In biblical meditation, a person deliberately quiets the heart and contemplates certain verses, asking,
“What is this saying to me about my life and situation?” or “What is this saying about God?” Biblical meditation can include prayer, Bible memory, and reading.
Biblical focuses on God
The Psalms are filled with exhortations to meditate on all the qualities of God.
Bible verses about meditation showcase the differences between it and yoga or other forms of non-biblical meditation.
Meditating correctly lifts our hearts up in communion with God. Our focus is on Him, not ourselves.
We are personalizing truths found in His Word, not seeking to find truth within ourselves.
Psalm 119:15–16 KJV 1900
15 I will meditate in thy precepts, And have respect unto thy ways. 16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Psalm 19:14 KJV 1900
14 Let the words of my mouth, And the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Biblical requires us to be born and filled with the Holy Spirit.
A person who is filled with the Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 25) lives in a state of ongoing meditation, even while going about a daily routine.
God is never far from his or her mind, and every sight, sound, and event is another opportunity to share with the Lord.
Galatians 5:16 KJV 1900
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:25 KJV 1900
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Biblical Meditation is more that just a duty is a delight and pleasure to those that submit to putting in to practice.
We become like planted by the living water
Our lives become fruitful
Meditation give a understanding
Psalm 119:99 KJV 1900
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: For thy testimonies are my meditation.
What we think on matters
Proverbs 23:7 KJV 1900
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.
Philippians 4:8 KJV 1900
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
