Intro

bring Sam up

I work out and so does my friend Sam

I want to look like him when i grow up

I worked out with Sam and kept up with him for 40 minutes before I had to poop and puke at the same time

challenge 3 boys to beat Sam at push ups

going to the gym is about making steady progress over time

Sam over the course of years of his life has grown to a point where everyone around him cant help but notice that he looks pretty strong- no homo

2Peter1:3-11

let me read you a passage of scripture

there is sinful desire in the world that is corrupting it

it was true then in Peter’s context and it is still true now in ours

people would rather serve themselves even if it harms others than give their selves up to love and serve other people

because that is the nature of people, to chase after their own sinful desires, you do something different

you be set apart in this way- supplement your faith- show my supplements

the world around you will not provide you with the things that God does

and if you want to enter the kingdom, it will take a life of growing in these things

Application

You’ve heard it before and I’m sure you’ll hear it again but I’ve got Monday morning so here it is

you have an amazing opportunity to grow while you’re out here

you can start setting goals and working toward them here and now

this week we will talk a lot about being Holy, set apart, distinct from the world around us

a lot of that takes choosing the hard thing that gives something up for someone else rather than the easy thing that only serves me

start that today and here and now while you’re surrounded by people who want to help you and who love you the same way and who want to set that same example

just like if you never go to the gym you’ll never grow big muscles like Sam

if you never start living and loving differently, you’ll never reach the end we are all striving for
