Introduction:

2 Cor. 5:6-8 “So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

1. Understanding That We Are Sojourners and Pilgrims

- What does it mean?

Sojourner

a dwelling near or with one; hence, a sojourning, dwelling in a strange land (Strongs)

Metaphorically, the life of man here on earth, likened to a sojourning

Pilgrim

“sojourning in a strange place, a foreigner” (Thayer)

“a stranger”

- We are sojourners and pilgrims

Pilgrims - 1 Peter 1:1

Sojourning in fear - 1 Peter 1:17

Great Men of the Bible understood that this life was a pilgrimage

2. Remembering That This World Is Not Our Home

Danger in accommodation to this world

"Accommodate" means "to make fit or suitable - to acclimate, to adjust”

Do not conform to this world - Rom. 12:1

We cannot avoid danger by blending in with our surroundings

We cannot ever reach the point of that we get used to this world
