Dyson Griffin Scholarship Fund

Introduction: The purpose of the Pilgrim Baptist Church Scholarship fund is to help Pilgrim Baptist Church’s post secondary students who are attending a trade school, technical college, or a university for post graduate study.

The parent, guardian and student must be a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in order to qualify for the Griffin- Dyson Academic Scholarship through the Pilgrim Baptist Church.

We the officers and members of the Pilgrim Baptist Church wish our students well. And Wishing our young adult students well is commendable but supplying them with monetary funds will help them matriculate through school with less financial stress.

It is the intentions of the Pilgrim Baptist Church Scholarship fund to be beneficial to students who exhibit the following Christian, moral, ethical, and spiritual traits, along with the academic fortitude that is conducive of a good Christian Character.

1. The student will be able to show proof of their high school diploma. (Provide the committee with a copy).

2. The student will be in regular attendance at church services or Sunday school or bible study so that when they go off to college they will be better equipped to face real world situations.

3. The student will be able to provide the scholarship committee with an acceptance letter to the attending trade, technical college, college or university that they have been accept to attend. No exception . (Provide the committee with a copy of acceptance letter).

4. The student will be able to provide the Scholarship committee with a true copy of their high school transcript that displays their grade point average. Your grade point average must be ....

5. The student will be able and willing to do service learning projects in and around the Pilgrim Baptist Church. For instance: The young men helping and working on the outside of the church cleaning cutting grass, and fixing up. The young women helping and working inside and around the church whether clerical, filing, cleaning etc whatever may be needed. (Your Pride for Pilgrim Baptist Church matters a great deal towards our future).

6. The student will be able to write a full page typed essay of their goals, aspirations and occupational endeavors along with your intended dreams. Within the essay the student will explain why they should be awarded the Griffin-Dyson scholarship from the Pilgrim Baptist Church. (There are no wrong answers only be true to one’s own self).

7. The Scholarship Committee will determine the amount awarded to each student based on the criteria set forth by the committee and the needs assessed for each student.

8. The Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the School of acceptance for the student receiving the scholarship award.

9.The student that is returning to college has to submit their last semester grades and they will automatically be awarded scholarship funds determined by the committee.

10. This is the last item of consideration since this scholarship committee has just been formed, we realize that we don’t have the ample time for a lengthy application period which would have started at the first of the year. And so it is the recommendation that we review the applicants expediently and determine the awarded amount of funds to each so that they could pay their fees in an appropriate timeline. Next year we’ll be able to submit their scholarship award letters to their high schools so that it will be counted during their senior scholarship program.

11. All students awarded the Griffin- Dyson Scholarship from the Pilgrim Baptist Church, will be presented their awards during a regular church service ceremony to be determined by the committee.
