Thank You Father - Genesis 12-14

INTRO: It’s Father’s Day and celebrations are occurring all over the US.

I’m pausing from my series BYC for this special day.

Today’s sermon is a topical sermon. Different Scriptures will be used to emphasize Who is a FATHER; the importance of FATHER; and why should FATHER be shown gratitude.

Who is a FATHER?

Biologically - a male who physically produces a child.

Relative - a male in relation to a child. Uncle; Cousin; Grandfather; etc.

A Man God has place in your life to guide you in spiritual and practical matters of life. Joseph (STEPFATHER)

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOUR DETERMINATION

Gen 12:4 “4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him.

Abram showed DETERMINATION to guide and direct his nephew Lot.

God instructed Abram to leave his country for a special blessing. LOT - not a burden; sincere love expressed between them.

Like Abram FATHERS are DETERMINED to guide you to the the best of their ability.

SO, THANK YOU FATHER for your determination.

Why is FATHER important?

FATHERS DEMONSTRATE Worship; (INSIDE THE HOME; OUTSIDE THE HOME-CHURCH; FAMILY GATHERINGS)

Ge 12:7–8. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built another altar and dedicated it to the Lord, and he worshiped the Lord.

The key to worship is KNOWING that as you worship, you are being recreated into the image of the One you worship.

SO, THANK YOU FATHER for DEMONSTRATING WORSHIP. Now, I know how to pray; praise; obedient; serve my family.

Why show FATHER any gratitude?

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOUR DELIVERANCE

Ge 13:8-9 “8 Finally Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not allow this conflict to come between us or our herdsmen. After all, we are close relatives! 9 The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I’ll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I’ll go to the left.””

WAR BROKE OUT. LOT WAS CAPTURED. EVERYTHING HE OWNED WAS SIEZED.

FATHER rescues you in the time of trouble.

LOOK AT WHAT ABRAM DOES - He mobilizes an army of his own; (LOYALTY); Rescues Lot and his family; AND ALL HIS POSSESSION AND RETURNS THEM TO THEIR HOME.

SO, THANK YOU FATHER for DELIVERING me from my times of distress.

CLOSE: And now FATHERS. It’s your day…BUT you can say THANK YOU FATHER...

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOUR DETERMINATION guiding me through life; directing my path; making your ways known to me; correcting me; DETERMINED not to let me die in sin and trespasses...

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOU DEMONSTRATION - in Your word I can look at

Joseph - trust you in the pit; in the prison; palace.

David - praise You in the morning; evening; good times; enemies surround me...

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOU DELIVERANCE

You loved me, when I was deep in sin - Ro 5:8 “8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” THANK YOU FATHER!

The Son gave His life for me to DELIVER me from ***. THANK YOU FATHER

But that’s not all, that same Son got up from the grave…to assure me of total DELIVERANCE and everlasting life.

WHO IS THIS SON…HIS NAME IS JESUS.

THANK YOU FATHER!
