Bishop T.D. Jakes - Disruptive Thinking
“None of that theology they taught you prepares you to deal with a deacon who is gambling away his paycheck. There are no classes to prepare you for the situations that will be thrust upon you.”
“You have to be adept at handling problems—and then walk out into the pulpit on Sunday morning like there are no problems.”
Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
The crowd welcomed Him…
Luke said they were all waiting for Him!
A crowd....
With different needs
With different agendas
With different perspectives
Waiting: to await anxiously v. — to look forward to the occurrence of something with trepidation or anxiety.
You never know what the person is going through “in” this crowd.
The person I’m sitting next to may have feelings of trepidation or anxiety!
I’m waiting.....
I need clarity..... I’m waiting
I need a healing..... I’m waiting
I need direction..... I’m waiting
I’m standing in need for someone else..... I’m waiting
What happens when the “crowd makes things cloudy.”
There was no cell phone.... to see his location
There was no Facebook for Him to update His status
How did they know, when He was going to return?
He was just kicked out of one city across the sea because of Him healing the man who was named Legion.
Either some went before Him to let people know that He was returning or they were just waiting.
What happens when the crowd can get the best of you…
Good or Bad!
Our needs can consume our cognitive processing…
And there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus’ feet, he implored him to come to his house,
A man named Jairus
“Who was a ruler of the synagogue”
The Bible Knowledge Commentary 8:40–42
A synagogue ruler was in charge of the synagogue services and was responsible for maintaining and cleaning the building.
He was responsible for arranging the synagogue for meetings and probably leading the council of elders in the synagogue.
He was a person who was use to fixing problems with a problem!
Background recap!
Many of the Jews did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah
I’m sure Jairus was in synagogue conversations about Jesus…
It was the Pharisees who wanted to destroy Him and the High Priest who wanted to challenge Him.
I’m sure that He had a perception about Jesus…
But…
“Every period of chaos brings with it a gift....”
Jairus falls at His feet…
He begins to ask earnestly for him to come his house…
Whatever his thought was about Jesus had to be disrupted because of the chaos at his house!
Chaos: complete disorder and confusion.
As a man.... I want to fix things on my own...
I want to come up with the solution…
It is so east to lean on my own understanding…
What do you do when your in a situation with no solution?
for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.
As Jesus went, the people pressed around him.
The chaotic situation was that his only daughter, about 12 years of age was dying.
Fathers! Can you imagine?
Your baby girl is dying right before your eyes.
Call the doctor!
Get her some medicine!
This can’t be happening!
Jairus had to make a decision… Do I stay and watch her take her last breathe? Or do I go to look for the one person who I think that can help her?
and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”
You don’t understand whats going on in my home!
Please “come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”
You are my only hope!
As he went there were so many people pressing Him…
This is the time where the woman with the issue of blood touched him…
While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
I have good news!
While he was still speaking… (To the woman with the issue of blood)
Here comes some who said....
“Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
(Both Mark & Luke record the same thing)
First of all..... He is more than just a teacher!
I come to realize that people don’t believe the same way you believe about the God you serve…
“But overhearing what they said”
I’m so glad that were serve a savior who can deal with more than one situation at a time!
“Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
To fear v. — to be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a situation or event.
To believe (trust) v. — to have faith; put one’s trust in something.
I’m speaking to every Father / I’m speaking to every person
You Did The Right Thing!
I can’t fix it
I needed a solution

I need Him at my house....
They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly.
I don’t care whats going on at the house
Jesus is in the house!
Do not fear, Only Believe!
