Praise Psalm 107:8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

To begin with Happy Father’s Day.This text today reminds men to be thankful and grateful and appreciative of the many many many manifold blessings that God has bestowed upon us. And verses 8, 15, 21, and 31 reiterates the main theme over and over and over again. “ Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!” As a songwriter a recognize that verse 8 15 21 & 31 at what they call the Hook of the song. Because Psalms 1-150 are songs that the religious staff to the nation of Israel wrote. King David a skillful musician wrote so many Psalm including this one.

And on Father’s Day I want us to see that God really mean for Men to Praise him. Because if we can get the man of the house to praise God the rest of the family will follow suit. When I get up to come to church Everybody else in my house gets up to go to church. As for me and my house we will Serve the Lord.

I often wondered about men that wouldn’t praise God in his sanctuary, about men who wouldn’t come to church at all and about men who never talk about the Good Lord to their own family, friends, or foes. And what that really means is that God is not important to you if He never comes up in none of your conversations. None of your conversations? Come on nah As much stuff as us men talk about when we are not around the women, we can’t ever talk about the Lord sometimes? Think about that and let’s see what the Psalmist say about the matter.

1  O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good:For his mercy endureth for ever.

2  Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

3  And gathered them out of the lands,From the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

The first thing out the gates is O give thanks unto the LORD FOR HE IS GOOD. God has been good to all of us. When look back over our lives and see how far the Lord has brought us from Everybody in this House ought to say Thank You Lord! Thank you because you woke me up this morning thank you because you started me on my way Thank you because you clothed me in my right mind thank you because you put food on my table and a roof over my head Thank you! Thank you Lord because you spared me from hurt harm and danger when i was dead wrong Lord Your Mercy endureth forever. brothers and sisters when you’ve been through something This next verse really uplifts your spirit. Verse 2 says Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. The word Redeemed in this text explain a broader context Because when you thinks about what Gaw-al means it’s almost frightening of how they go out. redeem means I’m free now I’ve been bought back out of the hands of the enemies. I’ve been set free. I was defiled desecrated, polluted, soiled and spoiled, I was stained and I’ve been repudiated. I was a vile cast away and I was though of as nothing more than a doormat and a prisoner at best. David the writer is saying in his song that the nation of Israel has been through so much trouble. Sometime when we go through trouble it makes us stringer than we’ve ever been. Because it means that we’re now delivered from destruction oppression sorrow misery labor and affliction. And so the psalmist encourages us to give thanks to the Lord . He says in essence if you’ve been through some rough stuff, some tough stuff and you have awful stuff that is beyond your control and God comes in and redeem you. That’s your shouting moment. When the word of God comes in and says to me 1.O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good;For his mercy endureth for ever.2  Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;3  And gathered them out of the lands,From the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. The text say that God gather them from other lands. They are called the diaspora meaning the Israelites were scattered everywhere in the East The West The North and the South. And you have to ask yourself why Men?

It was because of their disobedience How do you know? Where can we find the context clues? When can we find the answers? Look at verse

4  They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way;
They found no city to dwell in.
5  Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
6  Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble,
And he delivered them out of their distresses.
7  And he led them forth by the right way,
That they might go to a city of habitation. all of this happened because they were disobedient. And the Lord allowed Babylon to conquer and capture the Israelites and You would think that they had had enough with the Assyrians the Egyptians dominating them for hundreds of years because of disobedience. And anytime you follow strange gods and not the True and Living God there’s going to be trouble. And God said well since you are ungrateful God said Babylon take Israel you have my permission. And God caused their trouble to be in a solitary way( By yourself) You did this and don’t try to put this on nobody else. Listen brothers and sisters especially Men, some things we have to take responsibility for, because it isn’t anybody else’ fault the way things are going wrong. “I said, “I’m sorry 3x. I messed up the water. I messed up the sewer system.. Give me a few hours to fix it please. So I went to Home Depot bought some pcp pipe, some pipe dope, primer and glue, some teflon tape, got my hack saw and tape measure, cut the broke piece of pipe out of the line, put a union on the old pipe joined the new pipe waited a few minutes until the glue was dry. Turned the water back on flushed the toliet and we was right as rain. Poured some rid x and dran no with hot water. Then later some Clorox to clear out that foul smell. And my family forgave me. But I was the cause of the trouble. Just like Israel was the cause of the trouble. and after God heard their cry of repentance. Then we come to verse
8  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9  For he satisfieth the longing soul,
And filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
The Placid, Picture that perfectly resounds here is that Men would Praise God because of His goodness. because when you lose your way and God forgive your anyway you ought to say Thank you Lord Glory to God Bless God Amen Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus. You brought me from a mighty, mighty, mighty long ways.
The bible indicates to us in verses 10-14
10  Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Being bound in affliction and iron;
11  Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And contemned the counsel of the most High:
12  Therefore he brought down their heart with labour;
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13  Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble,
And he saved them out of their distresses.
14  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And brake their bands in sunder.
briefly this means that Israel had violated their covenant with the Lord and God disciplined them. And God sent a heathen king by the name of Cyrus a pagan king and God made Cyrus set them free. They were Jewish exiles in Babylon a place godless sinful lustful violent wickedness Nobody associated Babylon with righteousness. It was like sending them to a living hell!!!
And what that means in 2023 is just because it seems like everybody is having a good time doing unholy stuff that doesn’t mean you have to do it too. It’s Father’s Day so you ought not be drunk out your mind today and people got to take off your shoes for you and put you in the bed.... Thank God for redemption… Boy I’m a better man than I used to be. And I’ll be patient with us until some of us get better. Ain’t no sense in pointing No fingers at nobody All of us have messed up at some point in our lives. But the question is will to Praise God
Because verse 15 looks pass our faults and gives us a declaration to aspire to. Let’s read it together.
15  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Listen to me 3x Psalm 107 goes from verse 1-43 and we’re just on verse 15 . I can’t finish them all not even in an hour long bible study So Here’s the cheat sheet Verses 16-21 is when you lose your health but God blesses you with his mercy and lovingkindness.
Then Verses 22-31 is a depiction of when we lose our hope and With Israel being exiled in Babylon they at times lost hope but verse 31 says Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
And then finally verses 32-43 is about when we lose our home. And the idea here as I close is that
1.If you’re not living righteous God can turn a garden into a desert.
2. If you’re not living righteously God will Judge the land because of its wickedness 3.But if we repent God can also heal the land. and cleanse it from the evil that has come upon it and is trying to create a stronghold. The bible is saying that when God clean thing outs he will restore the blessings to the land and to the people. Because in 2 Chronicles 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I’m closing here but I’ve got one more thing to tell you yes,
8  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men! I don’t know about you but the Lord been good to me. And as a man of God I just want to Praise the Lord while I have a chance. God been good to me. Have He been good to you. That they might go to a city of habitation.
8  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men! He brought us from a mighty long ways, and If it had not been for the Lord on our side I don’t know where we would be. Because I should have been dead !!!! Sleeping in my grave but Lord made old death behave . Thank You…3x
I won’t complain or
