“This is the book which declares the deity of Jesus Christ. That Christ is God is actually set forth in every chapter of John's record:(i)

Nathanael declares Him to be the Son of God (1:49).

His glory is manifest in the turning of the water to wine (2:11).

He is declared to be the source of eternal life (3:16).

He claims to be the promised Messiah (4:26).

He says He will call the dead to life (5:25).

He declares Himself the bread of God come down from heaven (6:33).

He states His equality with the Holy Ghost (7:37-39).

He takes to Himself the title I AM and states that He was before Abraham (8:58).

He receives worship as the Son of God (9:37-38).

He proclaims His equality with the Father (10:30).

He is said to be the Christ, the Son of God (11:27).

He makes known His power to draw all men unto Himself (12:32).

He proclaims Himself Master and Lord (13:13).

He calls Himself, with unmistakable clarity, the Father manifest in the flesh (14:9).

He claims all power by stating that, without Him, a man can do nothing (15:5).

THE DOCTRINE OF ETERNAL LIFE (iii)

John 10:22-42

“Eternal” – no beginning and no end

“life” - The present state of existence

God’s doctrine of Eternal Life has to do with Jesus Christ…

indwelling the believer

the state of abundant life Jesus brings here

the Heavenly home after leaving here.

Here we study the ELEMENTS of Eternal life.

I. The Faith Of The Sheep. v.27

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

The people He speaks to.

“sheep”

The place He speaks from.

The pattern He speaks about.

“follow”

II. The Future Of The Sheep. v.28a

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish...

The gift of salvation.

“I give” - NEVER you earn or keep

III. The Faithfulness Of The Sheep. v.28b-30

The Security of Jesus Christ. v.28b

...neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

The Stability of Jesus Christ. v.29

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

The Deity of Jesus Christ. v.30

I and my Father are one.
