Some one tell me what we learned yesterday?
What does it mean to be a child?
What does it mean to be God’s Workmanship?
What is sin?
Do we as Christian’s still sin?
Romans 7:21-25.
“the body of this death” is our sin nature.
Notice the Apostle Paul’s reaction to the fact that he still sins:
“wretched man that I am”
what does it mean to be wretched?
The Apostle Paul wrote almost have of the New Testament (13 Books). You’ve learned a little bit about him this week in cabin devotions. He was used by God to go to who have never heard about Jesus before. He planted so many churches.
But he calls himself a wretch in this passage, because of his sin. In fact in 1 Timothy 1:15 it says “It is a trustworthy saying and deserving full acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost.”
Because of Paul’s attitude about sin, he considered himself the chief of sinners, or the lead sinner.
What changed in his life?
As Christians, we should develop a sensitivity to sin in our lives as well.
James 4:17 “Therefore, to one who knows to do the right thing and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
Romans 6:12 “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,”
Romans 6:16-18 “Do you not know that when you go on presenting yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were given over, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”
1 John 1:5-2:2.
God is Holy and He cannot dwell with what is unholy. (v.5).
“fellowship” means close or intimate partnership. God can’t do that with what is unholy.
Those who “walk in darkness” are those that live it. They are still walking according to the “course of this world”.
Remember Ephesians 2:1-2 “And you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,” ?
God can be closely/intimately partnered with those who walk in the light.
How do you suppose we can walk in the light?
We trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. (1 John 1:7). Cleansed from all sin!
As believers, we still do sin. If we say we don’t, that makes our faith questionable (1 John 1:8, 10).
God has provided away that He can forgive us our sins, but for salvation, and the daily defilement that we pick up on the way.
1 John 1:9, 2:1-2.
This is where we see sensitivity to sin in the Christian’s life. Because we walk in the light, when we see the darkness of sin come out our hearts, we should want to get right with God right away.
And also our brothers and sisters in Christ, if we have sinned against them. Whether our parents, siblings, or anyone else, we should want to be reconciled to them.
1 John 1:7, talks about fellowship with one another. Not only are we closely connected with God, but also with all those who believe in God, through the one and only Jesus Christ.
Sin breaks the closeness of that partnership.
