Job continues to speak

Job 7:17
Job 7:17 NKJV
“What is man, that You should exalt him, That You should set Your heart on him,

David echoes the same thought

Psalm 144:1-4
Psalm 144:1–4 NKJV
Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle— My lovingkindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.
Both Job and David recognized God’s greatness.

Bildad speaks

Job 8:2-6
Job 8:2 NKJV
“How long will you speak these things, And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?
Job’s words are like hot air
Job 8:3 NKJV
Does God subvert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice?
God is obviously judging Job because he has sinned.
Job 8:4 NKJV
If your sons have sinned against Him, He has cast them away for their transgression.
Job’s children were killed because of their sin
Job 8:5–6 NKJV
If you would earnestly seek God And make your supplication to the Almighty, If you were pure and upright, Surely now He would awake for you, And prosper your rightful dwelling place.
Job is not as righteous as he claims to be

Job responds

Job 9:1-12
Job 9:1–12 NKJV
Then Job answered and said: “Truly I know it is so, But how can a man be righteous before God? If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand. God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered? He removes the mountains, and they do not know When He overturns them in His anger; He shakes the earth out of its place, And its pillars tremble; He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars; He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea; He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south; He does great things past finding out, Yes, wonders without number. If He goes by me, I do not see Him; If He moves past, I do not perceive Him; If He takes away, who can hinder Him? Who can say to Him, ‘What are You doing?’
Who can stop God from doing what He wants to do, who has a right to question God? Job was well aware that no one could.

God is in control, no one can rightfully question Him

Daniel 4:35
Daniel 4:35 NKJV
All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?”
Isaiah 43:12 - 13
Isaiah 43:12–13 NKJV
I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, And there was no foreign god among you; Therefore you are My witnesses,” Says the Lord, “that I am God. Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”
Isaiah 45:9
Isaiah 45:9 NKJV
“Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?
Romans 9:18 - 20
Romans 9:18–20 NKJV
Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”
Job 9:13-14
Job 9:13–14 NKJV
God will not withdraw His anger, The allies of the proud lie prostrate beneath Him. “How then can I answer Him, And choose my words to reason with Him?
Job never claims to be righteous, he simply knows he cannot justify himself.

No one can justify themselves

Job 9:20
Job 9:20 NKJV
Though I were righteous, my own mouth would condemn me; Though I were blameless, it would prove me perverse.
Job says that he cannot justify himself. In fact, no man can justify himself, that is the work of God.
Justification means to be declared righteous.
Justification brings forgiveness of sins:
Acts 13:38-39
Acts 13:38–39 NKJV
Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Justification is based on the righteousness of Christ

Romans 3:21-22
Romans 3:21–22 NKJV
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
Romans 5:18
Romans 5:18 NKJV
Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.

Justification is by faith, not works

Romans 3:28
Romans 3:28 NKJV
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
Romans 4:5
Romans 4:5 NKJV
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
Galatians 2:16
Galatians 2:16 NKJV
knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

Justification is freely given

Romans 3:24
Romans 3:24 NKJV
being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Blessed is the man who is forgiven

Psalm 32:1-2
Psalm 32:1–2 NKJV
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
