3 Marks Of A Fool
Psalm 14
1 . H e d e n i e s t h e p e r s o n o f G o d ( v. 1 a )
• His problem is not “I can’t find God.” Rather, "I don’t want God.”
• He is not misguided; he is defiant.
• The fool is against God (not merely “No God”, but “No! God”)
‣ The Witness of Creation:
“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because
God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his
eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived,
ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been
made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:19–20 ESV)
2 . H e d e l i g h t s i n s i n ( v. 1 b -3 )
• He sins not just with his lips, but with his life.
• The fool doesn’t want moral accountability.
‣ The Witness of Conscience:
“For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do
what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even
though they do not have the law. They show that the work of
the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also
bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even
excuse them” (Romans 2:14–15 ESV)
3 . H e d e s p i s e s G o d ’s p e o p le ( v. 4 - 6 )
• Godly people remind the fool of the God he is trying to deny.
• In the midst of attacking God’s people, the fool receives a shock.
‣ The Witness of a Christian:
“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable,
so that when they speak against you as evildoers,
they may see your good deeds and glorify God on
the day of visitation.” (1 Peter 2:12 ESV)
