I did not set this up like this
1st weekend I taught was in Romans 6
Being dead to sin and alive in Christ
Last time was in Jeremiah 18 and being moldable
I didn’t start this as a series
God just put these teachings on my heart
Today is no different
God put this on my heart during the pastors conference a couple of weeks ago
As I thought back on what I’ve taught I see what God has done
God spoke to us about being dead to sin because we have Christ
Then God showed us that we have to be moldable in the Potter’s Hands
Today, God wants to challenge us in the one work He has called all of us too
The Great Commission
Joke
Joke
The Great Commission will look different for all of us but we are all called
Your difference may be like the pastor who went to the house of a little ol lady that was part of his congregation.
She has missed a couple of weeks so the pastor goes to her house.
He sits down with her and as they were talking he notices a bowl of peanuts
He took a few and popped them in his mouth
The little ol lady looked at him with a raised eyebrow but didn’t say anything
The peanuts were so good the pastor took a small handful
And then another, and another
All the while the little ol lady was taken back but she still didn’t say anything
Finally she got up to go into the kitchen to get herself and the pastor a cup of coffee
While she was in the kitchen the pastor continued to take handfuls of the peanuts
By time the little ol lady returned the pastor had eaten them all
She looked at him in surprise
The pastor, with an embarrassed look apologized and told her he couldn’t help himself because those were the best peanuts he had ever tasted.
The little ol lady said, “Don’t worry about it, I can’t eat them any way so I just suck the chocolate off of them.”
The Great Commission can be like this
We will find ourselves in precarious positions sometimes
The Great Commission is a command from Jesus to every believer
We don’t all have the same gifts
We’re not all called to the same ministry
We ARE all called to the Great Commission
The Great Commission
The Great Commission
Matthew 28:16-20 [16] “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed them. [17] When they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some doubted. [18] And Jesus came and spoke to them , saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them i the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”
Jesus’ ministry on earth has come to an end
Before His final day on earth when He is taken to the right hand of the Father, He will spend 40 days with the disciples and showing Himself to others (Acts 1:3)
Jesus told His disciples that He would be gone and would equip us to better works
The gospel was only going to spread so far with Jesus doing it Himself
And with no Holy Spirit
By going to the Father
Then sending the Holy Spirit to draw all men to God
As well as equipping us to do the work of the ministry
The gospel can spread
Bringing many more to salvation through Jesus
This is dependent on believers obeying the Great Commission
