Mind Set

Romans 8:5

those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Life and Peace

Romans 8:6

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8:9–11 NIV

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Realm of the Spirit

Romans 8:9 NIV

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

we are in the realm of the Spirit

this changes our perspective

it must change how we see the world, our life

our mindset must be reformed = words of grace, godly actions

Does the Spirit?

not a question for the negative

rhetorical - we do have the Spirit

means that we are no longer in the realm of the flesh

where are we positioned - in the world or the Kingdom

irrational to have the Spirit and staying in the flesh

we have an obligation!

Spirit gives Life

Romans 8:10 NIV

But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.

our body is subject to death

the devil lied when he said that you will surely not die to Eve

Genesis 3:4 NIV

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

we have Christ , we have imputed righteousness

a righteous status bestows life

let us walk in that life

we must shun the death found in the flesh

Certainty of Life

Romans 8:11 NIV

And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

there is nothing surer

there is nothing more certain

Jesus is alive in you

Jesus is raised from the dead by the Godhead

life will be given us

the Spirit lives in you

embrace the freedom of life
