V.28

Scribes - Member of the Sanhedrin
Teacher and recorder of the law.
Which command is the most important of all?
The Gospel according to Mark (The Test of the Scribes (12:28–34))
The rabbinic tradition counted 613 commandments in the Torah, 365 prohibitions, and 248 positive commands.
The Gospel according to Mark The Test of the Scribes (12:28–34)

Twenty years before Jesus, Rabbi Hillel summarized the Torah in a negative version of the Golden Rule: “What you would not want done to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the entire Torah, everything else is interpretation.”

V.29-31

The Shema

Dt 6:4-5 “4 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
1 Jn 4:16–21.
Love of God- God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17 In this, love is made complete with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because as he is, so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. So the one who fears is not complete in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother or sister whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And we have this command from him: The one who loves God must also love his brother and sister.
Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), 1 Jn 4:16–21.

Loving God

Ps42:1-2 “1 As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God. 2 I thirst for God, the living God.
You can not be lukewarm -
Revelation 3:14–22 “14 “Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea: Thus says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator of God’s creation: 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I advise you to buy from me gold refined in the fire so that you may be rich, white clothes so that you may be dressed and your shameful nakedness not be exposed, and ointment to spread on your eyes so that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be zealous and repent. 20 See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. 21 “To the one who conquers I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I als…”
being Like David a man after God own heart.
Keeping his commands
Learning about who he is

His presence, enjoying His nearness, listening to His voice, reading His Word, and daily seeking to know Him better. As the apostle Paul said, “Whoever loves God is known by God”

Love your neighbor as yourself

Le 19:18 “18 Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.”
1 John 5:1–5 CSB
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him. 2 This is how we know that we love God’s children: when we love God and obey his commands. 3 For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden, 4 because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. 5 Who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

V.32-33

Not Sacrifice

Ho 6:6 “6 For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.”
