Plot to kill Jesus

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
because of that we are told some believed in Jesus and some went to the Pharisees.
John 11:47 NASB95
47 Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is performing many signs.
The fear was that Jesus would be perceived at the Messiah. They believed that the Messiah was going to be a King and would liberate Israel.
They didn’t believe Jesus was the Messiah, but feared that if people followed Him, the Romans would get wind of it and preemptively take Jesus out, and they, the ruling religious class of Israel, would become collateral damage.
John 11:49–53 NASB95
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, 50 nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” 51 Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, 52 and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53 So from that day on they planned together to kill Him.
Chapter 12
John 12:1–11 NASB95
1 Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people? 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it. 7 Therefore Jesus said, “Let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial. 8 “For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.” 9 The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also; 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.

Time, talent, and treasure.

The Sedition

Judas
He wasn’t worried about the poor, he was worried about his pocket.
I saw a panel of white liberal folks arguing with a black conservative over racial issues.
Standing up against hatred is important, but if you get offended on someone else’s behalf you are outside God’s will.
I don’t like the GD. I don’t say it, and don’t like hearing it.
But if you notice the spark of anger that flashes in your heart, that is not of God.
Raymond Gauf: God doesn’t dam, He blesses.
Jesus rebukes Judas.....
John 12:7–8 NASB95
7 Therefore Jesus said, “Let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial. 8 “For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”

The Sermon

John 12:9–11 NASB95
9 The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also; 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
Lazarus’ existence was a proclamation of who Jesus was and is and is to be.
Lazarus was himself, the work of God. He was a living, breathing, testament of God’s unmatched love and power.
And because of that, they hated him.
Ephesians 2:10 (NASB95)
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
