Questions to Ask

Why Should We Study?
What Should We Study?
How Do We Study?
When Do We Study?

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY?

To Apply a Foundation
To Attack Fallacies
To Age in the Faith
To Acknowledge our Failures
TO APPLY A FOUNDATION
Psalms 11:3 “If the foundations be destroyed, What can the righteous do?”
If we desire to help the ungodly turn to Christ and be saved, we must have a desire for Christ and the Scriptures.
John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
If we lack a desire for study of the Scriptures, we can do nothing to benefit the kingdom of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The foundation of God standeth sure!
TO ATTACK FALLACIES
Titus 1:9 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”
2 Timothy 4:2-4 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
If we don’t know basic doctrines of the Bible, how can we convince the lost that Jesus is who He says He is?
We should be able to give book, chapter, and verse for every thing that we believe.
1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”
Should we fight for our faith and the Scriptures???....ABSOLUTELY!
Jude 3 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
TO AGE IN THE FAITH
Hebrews 5:12-14 “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
1 Peter 2:1-3 “Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
By studying the Scriptures,
We grow in grace (1 Peter 2:2)
We grow in the knowledge of Christ (1 Peter 2:2)
We grow in all things! (Ephesians 4:11-16)

WHAT SHOULD WE STUDY?

We should study the Scriptures.
We should study the Savior.
The only think that can tell us what is right, what is wrong, how to get right, and how to stay right is the Scriptures! (2 Timothy 3:13-17)
We’ll get into the doctrine of the word of God later, but we will be using the inerrant, infallible, immutable 1611 KJV Bible.
Not only do we study the Scriptures, but we should also study the Savior.
(1 Peter 2:21-22)
(Matthew 11:29)
(John 12:26)
