Definition of “world” for today’s sermon

Matthew 13:22- One who is separate from Christ because of his love of worldly things

Those who are not part of the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 2:12-14)

Those who are greatly influenced by their natural man (James 3:15, Jude 16-19)

Romans 12:1-8 Be not conformed (उस्तै देखिने) to this world

No longer of the world (1-2)

We have been made children of God, no longer children of Adam

Romans 8:16-17 This is the Spirits work within us

Romans 8:29 Conformed to the image of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Romans 9-11 teaches us who the true children of God are leading into chapter 12 telling us to be different from the world we came from

We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind

Colossians 3:10 Made new day by day

Colossians 1:21-22 This is God’s work in salvation and sanctification

Members together as one body in Christ (3-5)

This brings a godly humility rather than a worldly pride

God resists the pride (James 4:6)

Worldliness is defined by self-centered pride

Titus 2:12 deny lust and live soberly

1 John 2:15-17 all worldliness is a love of self

This brings a godly unity rather than a worldly pride

We are brought together into a new family

Those within the family are treated differently than those outside (1 Corinthians 5:9-13)

We have been given gifts

God has equiped us to spread his grace in the world

We are in the world but not of the world

We are lights in the darkness of the world (Matthew 5:14-16)

Romans 12:9-21 give a further blueprint for what this would look like

14- bless them that curse you

17- live honestly in the sight of all men

18- live peaceably with all men

20- love your enemy and serve him

21 Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good

Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed
