Judging
Judging
You said we aren’t called to Judge, But aren’t we called to judge with righteous judgment in John 7:24?
Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
Great Question.
Gives us a moment to clarify what the word says about this matter.
In my statement. The judgment I was referring to was the judgment of others. People.
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
So it is pretty clear we aren’t supposed to judge one another.
What are we supposed to Judge?
If we are placed in a position to ensure justice!
We can be placed in a place were we can bring justice If that is our position given by men then we must do it rightly
‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.
When Jesus spoke the words in John he was speaking to the Religious leaders who were placed in a position to determine what was righteous and what wasn’t. They were positioned to be the ones to bring God’s Justice to men. But instead they misused their position and abused it.
Here is the text in context.
Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?
Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
Now some of them from Jerusalem said, “Is this not He whom they seek to kill?
But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ?
Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all.
Judgment many times in scripture means discern. Interpret.
