And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
Introduction:
The Gospel - Verse 23
Jesus is commanding something of the disciples that He is about to serve as an example.
Jesus does not call us to sacrificial living that He has not also displayed in His own life.
You are called to serve.
You are called to serve.
Jesus speaks of a parable and a truth saying:
He must die to accomplish the work He has come to do.
Anyone else who wants what He promises must be willing to do the same.
Let’s take a look at the ways Jesus served in His earthly ministry:
Jesus healed the blind.
Jesus fed the hungry.
Jesus healed the lame.
Jesus taught those who wanted to learn.
Jesus brought back to life someone who had died.
He healed the sick, comforted the hurting, and welcomed the children.
However, we must realize the truth of these events...
The person who received sight one day passed away.
The people who were full after they were fed were hungry again.
The man who could suddenly walk one day passed away.
Lazarus who was raised from the dead died again.
Does this mean Jesus was not good at what He did? No!
You are called to follow Jesus.
You are called to follow Jesus.
Your reward will be heavenly.
Your reward will be heavenly.
This week, will you give everything to serving others so that they may know Jesus?
