The Uncertain Servant-Gideon-Judges 6-7

I. The Israelites faced great hardships-fear, insecurity, poverty.

      • A. They had done evil in the eyes of the Lord. (Judges 6:1).
      • B. They had not listened to God. (Judges 6:10).

II. Gideon is willing, but is afraid and needs reassurance.

      • A. God sends Gideon and promises to be with him. (Judges 6:12-16).
      • B. The angel of God demonstrates His power. (Judges 6:17-24).
      • C. Gideon obeys God - fearfully, at night - to destroy the alter to Baal and Asherah pole. (Judges 6:25-32).
      • D. Gideon boldly calls the army together, but then asks for the sign of the fleece. (Judges 6:33-40).

III. God uses Gideon to fulfill His plan.

      • A. God reduces the army so that Israel would not boast against Him. (Judges 7:1-8).
      • B. Gideon trusts God, having been transformed from an Uncertain Servant into a Mighty Warrior. (Judges 6:12).
      • C. Gideon boldly 0beys God and God brings the victory. (Judges 7:15-22).

IV. God sends us to confront the enemy.

      • A. God knew we would face hardships in a fallen world. (John 16:33).
      • B. God promises to be with us and to work through our obedience. (Psalm 37:5).
