Last week we end with the judgment of God on the world.
How did he judge the world?
Why did he judge the world?
How many were saved?
8 souls
all animals male and female unclean, 7 of clean
How were they saved?
Does this apply to today?
13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
One year later… God tells Moses it’s time to leave the Arc!
God commanded them the exact same thing he told Adam in the beginning!
1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Why the same command?
It was still his plan that his image cover the face of the earth!
God makes a promise:
11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
Never again
Gives a sign...
Genesis 9:13 (KJV 1900)
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
Why a bow?
Warriors bow!
Where is the arrow pointing?
God is holding himself hostage!
He is saying my judgement has fallen on you but there will be a time when you will pierce me!
When the punishment of the world will be my responsibility to deal with!
Just like Adam and Eve’s children were divided by sin, Noah’s children were as well.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
We don’t know what really happened here...
At a minimum, Ham publically ridicules his father.
At most this is a euphemism for sexual abuse.
Curse on Ham
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
Blessing on Shem
26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; And Canaan shall be his servant.
So the Gen 3:15 will be fulfilled through the line of Shem!
36 Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,
Jesus completes the mission of the bow!
Sin had continued to spread and grow… BUT the judgement of sin now would fall on Jesus!
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Here is God’s original plan… that the world be covered by his image!
How is that done?
We are changed into his image and through the spreading of the Gospel, his image in multiplied over the face of the earth!
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.
The bow pointing to heaven, ever reminding God of the day he would be pierced!
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Image!
